Les Cheneaux Golf Club

Les Cheneaux Golf Club The Les Cheneaux area's historic nine hole golf course located in Cedarville, MI.

OPENING OF THE GOLF LINKS IS DELAYED.
Opening of the course for the 2025 season is delayed and the start date is uncertain. This is due to three major projects underway at the Club on Marquette Island. Two of the projects became necessary recently and were unexpected. All of the resources of the Les Cheneaux Club are working on Club point to complete the important work.
Essential golf course maintenance is occurring so playing conditions can be restored quickly when conditions on the island allow.
The delay is a disappointment for the Club and for all golfers in the Les Cheneaux community who were looking forward to returning to the historic golf links.
Operation of the golf course is managed by the Les Cheneaux Club Board of Directors. Communication about the Club's plan for the 2025 season has been slow because of the Board's focus on the major work projects on Club point.
When there are updates from the Board on the golf course they will appear on the LCGC website and be posted here.

The Les Cheneaux Club Golf Links will not open for public play until the 2025 golf season. Reconditioning work continued throughout the summer and play has been limited. That work will pick up for the next several weeks. We know this disappoints our community golfing friends who were looking forward to playing the historic course this year. Please look forward to next season.

2024 is a year of transition to what should be a more enjoyable golf experience in years ahead. The native grasses have been cut back to increase the playing area- fewer lost balls and faster rounds! Most of the re-surfaced tees have recovered very well while a few have lagged due to soil compaction. The putting greens are improving from last fall’s turf damage but some patches require re-seeding which resumes this month. In addition to on going work on the tees and greens, selective tree removal to improve turf health will continue. We are optimistic several of the neglected sand bunkers will be removed before next season opens.

Stay tuned to our page and roadside signs for course updates or visit our new website (lescheneauxgolfclub.org) for current information.

The Les Cheneaux Club Golf Links are getting improvements and will open later this season.

We expect the Les Cheneaux Golf Club course will open later this summer while re-conditioning continues. At first, it will open to limited play by Les Cheneaux Club members. As soon as it will handle more golfers, the course will open for public play. Golf season memberships will be available for purchase by the community as soon as an opening date is known.

Once open, newly seeded areas will be roped off, you will see several temporary tees and possibly some temporary greens. Putting greens will be slow until the new grass can be mowed to a shorter height. This will be a year of transition to what we believe will be a more enjoyable golf experience in the future for the entire Les Cheneaux community.

We recognize this will disappoint golfers looking forward to teeing it up early this summer, but vital course improvements began last fall and continue this spring. Areas of turf damage on the putting greens are being re-seeded and several tee boxes were re-surfaced and re-seeded. Spring seeding and cool nights slowed seed germination, delaying recovery of the course. The course is littered with fallen and leaning trees after wind damage that create hazardous conditions. These must be cleared before play starts. Other trees will be removed around tee boxes because their root competition and shading contributed to the poor turf condition that needs repair.

Stay tuned to our page and roadside signs for course updates. Later this summer our new Les Cheneaux Golf Club website should be on line.

This will be the 126th year the Les Cheneaux Golf Club has been operating in the Les Cheneaux community. Last year marked a milestone 125th anniversary that was celebrated with Congressional recognition thanks to U.S. Representative Jack Bergman. It was also the year the Club began course improvements that will give Les Cheneaux area residents and visitors an attractive golf experience with quality putting greens and teeing areas.

The historic course, the oldest continuously operated golf course in Michigan, sits on the edge of the Snows Channel offering golfers picturesque views of the water and its passing boat traffic. Long native grasses between the widely mowed fairways are reminiscent of Scottish links courses. It is a family friendly nine hole layout that is easy to walk and provides enjoyment for golfers of all ability levels from beginners to scratch players.

While more than a century old, the Les Cheneaux Golf Club fits one of the new trends in golf, shorter courses that can be played in a couple hours or less leaving time to enjoy other activities offered in the Les Cheneaux Islands.

The course is owned by the Les Cheneaux Club but is operated for the enjoyment of the Les Cheneaux community and public at large. The Club invites you to play this historic gem. Tee times are not required but are available for groups and outings who can call the clubhouse for arrangements (906-484-3606) or email [email protected]. Memberships are available for the season or monthly and provide benefits of no greens fees, reduced cart fees, and discounted guest fees and golf apparel.

Please join us this coming season for walk-on play or purchase a monthly or season membership. Discount “6-Play” cards will be available in the clubhouse and give golfers six rounds for the price of four! Your play sustains the continuity of this local course. Come out to preserve the future of community golf …. and hit ‘em straight!
