When it all started.
Back in 2006, during an evening of softball activities with the guys, we had a substitute player show up to our pre-game ritual of drinking a few beers and grilling some food. He brought with him a set of boards and some bags filled with corn. With 10 of us there, we split into teams and began playing. I remember having to find a safe place to place my beer when I wasn’t holding it, it would either tip over in the long grass or get knocked over by the unpredictable bag tosses. We all sucked, we had no idea how to throw the bags and no consistency at all, but we were having a great time. I remember leaning over to my friend and saying, I can make these, they are just plywood and 2x4’s. He agreed, and asked me to make him a set as well, which was easy, since a sheet of plywood would make 2 sets. I hand painted my first two sets. Right after that, a few more of my friends asked me to make a couple more, and then in started to multiply like gremlins. Eventually when someone pulled out the boards and played with friends, at least one or two of those friends would call me and ask me to build them a set as well.
With orders starting to fly in, I decided to buy a vinyl graphics cutter. Having a lot of experience already with Photoshop, I quickly learned how to put some cool graphics on the boards, which in turn created even more demand. I would build boards in batches, paint them, vinyl them, clear coat them and sew up some bags. I was getting to a point where the orders outweighed my time, the demand was too great for me to be at my “day job”. I took a leap of faith, based on my enthusiasm for the game, my construction skills and my growing graphic design capabilities and started making boards full time. It wasn’t long after that, I needed more help, and since then, I have always employed some great assistants to help me with the process and to streamline my building, designing and shipping process. There were times it was overwhelming. Christmas, Fathers day and 4th of July was like getting hit with a Tidal wave of orders, often we were4-6 weeks out on production.
12 years later.....We have built, designed, and shipped thousands and thousands of boards all of the United States, some to Hawaii, Puerto Rico and even St. Johns. We have made custom boards for Governors, NFL players, Jimmie Johnson (the 7 time Nascar Champion), Blue Angels pilots, and several others. We continue to love the game of co****le, and we are always amazed at how it spread like a wildfire across America. When we found the domain name Co****leamerica.com, we knew that was a perfect fit for us, knowing that Co****le was becoming America’s new favorite backyard tailgate game, and that there were very few people who could not benefit by having a set of boards. Not only are we just building and designing boards, but we have utilized our resources to help people. Throughout the year, we select various charities to donate boards for raffles, we organize and run co****le tournament fundraisers and help with a grass roots effort of continuing to grow the great sport of Co****le!
