That’s a wrap for Dirt at the Downs! Ran both races with our yellow 17 and got 4th of 26 in the first race a couple weeks ago and then managed 5th of 29 tonight. Almost had 4th and missed it by 9 thousandths. Both races were pretty good with mostly clean driving and the track prep was great. This was my first dirt race in a little over 2 years so it took a moment to get back into the rhythm of it. Had a couple minor car issues too to keep things interesting. Honestly the best dirt surface I’ve raced on in a long time. Great show put on by Hawkeye Downs Speedway and Benton County Speedway.

Congrats to the winners: Cristian Grady Racing and Dylan Bonk!

One more enduro to finish off this year and then we settle into the offseason and get the cars refreshed.

Big thanks to the crew, competitors, and sponsors!

Been a while since we’ve posted on here, but it seems our year has just been plagued with bad luck. The last few weeks brought a few decent results as we reel in closer to that maiden victory for the sportsman. A string of 3rd-2nd-3rd had us starting at the rear of the field for the heat race last night. When rolling out for heat the shifter broke and left the car stuck in 2nd gear. Driver had to pull off without making a lap to save the engine. We determined afterwards that the shifter was not going to be able to be repaired at the track so we got the car manually pushed into gear using the rods under the car. Rolling out for the feature 6th in what we thought was 4th gear was actually 3rd. After pulling the car into the pit area and getting it in 4th gear we rolled back out to turn some laps and get a feel for the car. Being 3 laps down there was no way to make up any spots so we just essentially ran some test laps to see where the setup was. The car was a rocket and managed to go quickest overall on the penultimate lap by nearly 2 tenths and probably would have been competing for the win had there been no issues early on. Unfortunate luck once again, but we are close to that win and will fight again this upcoming week. 4 opportunities remain to collect that trophy.

Big thank you to all of the help from everyone involved yesterday and all year.
I can’t say enough to thank all of the sponsors that have taken a lot of the stress off of this year, as many dollars have been put into making this thing stay on track.

Race Recap:
Got to race the sportsman on the Hawkeye Downs Speedway half mile for the first time in the Mid-Am Racing Series race. All week was a rush to get everything ready in time. Had very little practice time before going straight into qualifying. Ended up running a 21.604 to put us 14th of 21. Started on the pole for the heat race and was able to hold on for the win.
Started 15th in the feature race and maintained tires and pace as long as possible. Had some good battles and close calls that unfortunately used up more tire than expected. For the last 15 laps the rear tires had gotten so hot that the car was just too loose to push aggressively. Had one minor scuff when I slapped the quarter panel off the wall while lapping another car. Ended up climbing 4 spots total to finish 11th as the only rookie in the field.
Overall, satisfied with the race and the car considering the lack of experience on my end, but looking towards climbing the ladder and getting some better finishes in the future.

Massive thanks going out to all of those involved, including the track, Mid-Am staff, and the crew. A lot of work went into getting this car ready for the race and couldn’t be done without them. Big thank you to Denny Custer for doing a great job spotting for me and providing all of the information and support I needed.

As always, this would be impossible without the help of our sponsors that allow us to put on a show and chase checkers every week.

We are quickly approaching the 2025 Racing season! This is Hawkeye Downs 100th year of racing and it’s bound to be a good one!
Last year we were able to wrap up a 3rd championship in the Hornet class and make a few starts in the Sportsman class. This year we will be moving up to run the Sportsman full time with the Hornet and Enduro cars on a more part-time schedule.
That being said, we are looking to extend our partnership with our existing sponsors but we have room to welcome new names as well. If you have any interest in supporting the team please reach out to this page and we can get you set up. The car will be getting rewrapped to show off all of the sponsors soon!
Thank you all for being fans, we are looking forward to 2025!

Another good night for us at Hawkeye Downs Speedway as we picked up another win and brought both cars home in one piece.

Hornet took a bit of a beating while battling for the lead but eventually got out front and ran away with the win after starting 5th. Lots of yellow flags during the race as some cars were spinning or losing wheels towards the back. After 3 or 4 restarts I was finally able to maintain the lead and take the checkers for win #5 of the season.

Sportsman race was good just to have the car back together without damage. Went backwards in the heat race and just couldn’t get comfortable on the top line. The feature race stayed pretty uneventful, as I started at the back and just spent some time getting comfortable. Made a couple passes and ended up 6th again tonight. Recognizing where I can improve and hopefully bring this team some better results.

Thanks to all of the sponsors and crew that are able to get these cars together for us to take to the track every weekend. It’s a lot of work, especially on weeks where both cars are broken.
