Little late on the post-race update but we’ve scored another sportsman win on Friday! The car was an absolute rocket from start to finish all night. Managed to climb 7 spots to win the heat, and another 3 spots to win the feature. As exciting as that was, the car was barely able to even make it to the race on time. Thanks to Matt and Larry, we were able to get the transmission back into the car at 5pm and then immediately pack up and rush to get the car to the track by the start of the night. The race itself was almost uneventful until a yellow came out right as I am about to take the white flag. The restarts were intense and we took some damage but nothing major. Ready to win some more races with the car.
The hornet race wasn’t quite as good, started 11th and only got to 7th. The street tires have a much different temperature window compared to the Hoosiers and didn’t get enough heat to find grip until the race was almost over. I was making a pass for 4th with 2 laps to go and just ran out of room and dropped to 7th right at the end. Disappointing finish but we will keep digging and get back to the front. That 7th place finish was the first time that Hornet has finished outside of the top 3 since 2022.
Despite difficult conditions, the team has pushed through and found victory lane 2 weeks in a row. I am amazed and delighted that we were able to get both cars on track and driving well under such conditions. This team can do anything, and we still have much more pace to find. It’s going to be a good year.
Many thanks again to the team, the fans, friends, family, and especially the sponsors, for making all of this possible.
