A lovely, simple, start-from-the-beginning guide on effective parenting, with I sight into possible ways not getting our childhood needs met led us into our adult challenges. Highly recommended for anyone contemplating parenthood. I wouldn’t have chosen the name they did, but still a great video. ❤️

Having had a good enough parent is a vital component of mental health in adulthood. But what really is a good enough parent? How can one tell if one had one ...

The 5 Freedoms represent what everyone can live into. While we all might not have grown up in families or cultures that taught us that it was okay to live into these freedoms, we can learn to honor the contexts we find ourselves in, honor the others in our life, while also honoring our own experiences, perspectives, and yearnings.

I’d like to announce that in about a month I will take level 3 training in Dr. Frank Corrigan’s Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR): an evidence-based, somatic trauma therapy which is an outgrowth of the original EMDR research. Frank won the Cornelia B. Wilbur award in 2023 from the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation for his development of DBR.

I have been using DBR in my practice daily since I completed level 1 training in November of 2023, and I am engaging continually in group consultation through Frank’s organization. DBR is very gentle, effective, and particularly helpful for those who have plateaued with EMDR, or find it to be too intense. I am having so much success with it in my practice, for all trauma. It is particularly helpful for CPTSD, including infant trauma.
I am licensed to practice in Iowa and Illinois. DBR is very effective through telehealth. I am also looking into activating another state or two through the counseling compact, as Iowa is now a member. I’m open to doing DBR as an adjunct technique, in partnership with other therapists, as well. If someone needs to travel, my offices in Cedar Rapids are less than four hours from Chicago, and local accommodations are comfortable and affordable. I do see clients on Saturdays.

A direct link to the official DBR website is on the front page of my own website, and there are two interviews under “resources”: one with Frank, another with Dr. Ruth Lanius who is one of the main researchers.

The Midwest Center for Transformational change provides evidence-based support for individual and organizational clients in becoming more fully themselves.

Brilliant, inspirational and real read,(and listen) on marriage.

Seven years into my marriage, I hit a breaking point. Since then, I’ve had to decide whether life would be better without my husband in it.

Happy Valentine’s Day ❤️

A best-selling author on relationships was totally unprepared when his wife told him she wanted to be “unmarried.” What did that even mean?

I’m impressed with not only the general teaching of respect for the dog (and my rescue dog will never be safe with children bc of a home where children were permitted to bully her), but also with his attention getting strategy.

I was mystified and had to read the comments to learn that what he brushed on the baby’s lips was probably a wet paper towel. It got baby’s attention but didn’t distress him. And dad remained emotionally present, contained, firm.
