1. “It could stunt their growth.” There is zero evidence to suggest that proper, supervised strength training, when done effectively, has a negative effect on an athlete’s growth.

2. “It’ll make them bulky or slow.” Strength training builds lean muscle mass. That muscle mass helps an athlete produce more force, AKA faster acceleration and change of direction.

3. “The risk of injury is high.” The injury risk of a strength training program is determined by the level of supervision and organization of the program. The risk of injury is no higher than any athletic endeavor.
