WARNING GUN - FINAL RUM QUESTION

The Ice Breaker's Perpetual Trophy was donated by Wally Schmidt (E-88) and Wally Schwarting (V-10) to Doc Dudley and the CLYC. Both were perennial Ice Breaker competitors and continued supporting the Ice Breaker by Co-PRO'ing for years after they retired from racing.

For the final bottle of Mt Gay, which Wally's name appears more on the Ice Breaker Perpetual Trophy?

WARNING GUN: Rum Question #2

Doc Dudley was a master craftsman and supplied custom made trophies for decades. Doc spent months in his basement laboratory (shop) designing and building unique trophies each spring for top finishers at the Ice Breaker. From lathe turned bowls, cutting boards, tables, picture frames, clocks, and even cannons, winning an Ice Breaker trophy meant taking home a piece of art.

In addition to trophies for the Ice Breaker and CLYC regular season awards, he also made a race win trophy for an organization.. For one bottle of Mt Gay, what organization did Doc donate a race win trophy to, and what regatta/race # is awarded for?

Happy 2025 All!

Short story: the Icebreaker Regatta at Cedar Lake, IN is BAAAAACCCCCKKKK!!! All C-Scows and C-Scow affiliates welcome!

May 3-4th, 2025, Cedar Lake Yacht Club, Indiana.

Longer story: After a tumultuous period of Cedar Lake political turmoil, the dredging pipeline has been removed and the project of cleaning up the lake was halted. This frees up the lake for the return of the 3 Race extravaganza….complete with many bonus incentives to join…to be announced over the next few months (some during the event).

Regatta chair and other event details to follow shortly.

Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible there for a friendly weekend!

Happy Spring Sailors!

Due to an ongoing lake wide dredging project, the CLYC is sad to announce no racing for the 2024 Ice Breaker regatta, but happy to announce a No Boat Regatta format!

The week following the 2023 Icebreaker, Cedar Lake, IN began the first year of a three year dredging project to revitalize the lake. This has been a long awaited endeavor and is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The downside is that the dredge pipeline currently runs down the middle of the lake - rendering the lake unaccommodating to setting race courses. Though we tried all ideas to strategically make it work, our Regatta Committee and PRO- AJ Schweda had no other choice than to cancel the races for this year…HOWEVER we are not letting the opportunity to see our friends go to waste.

Therefore, CLYC offers the following to those who wish to come have a party (Derby and all) in Cedar Lake:

Saturday May 4th @ 2pm, the Party begins
NO CHARGE food Saturday- including a very heavy offering of over-the-top hors d’ouvres through the afternoon and evening
Classic Kentucky Derby Party with HAPPY HOUR. Bring your hats!
Complimentary cruises around Cedar Lake- come view the dredging project up close and meet some of our fantastic members on a lake cruise
Attendance ensures 2025 race registration at NO CHARGE to those who visit us!

So we cordially invite you to Cedar Lake to “Break the Ice” with our members, and come have a good time that can only be had at the CLYC in the month of May.

Please reach out to us here or at 219-781-0210 for further details.

Looking forward to a great year!

Thank you to our Race Committee for 3 great races. They were the perfect way to shake off the winter rust.

Lastly, thank you to all of our competitors for making the trip to Cedar Lake and having a blast on and off the water.

There’s no better way to kick off the summer season than with a great group of friends new and old. We look forward to hosting everybody next year at the 2024 Ice Breaker!!
