About:
Welcome to Tactical Judo Solutions! It seems that the general public automatically assumes the worst intentions by the involved officers. Such videos then serve as the basis for costly Unreasonable Use of Force lawsuits. In this litigation-intensive environment, it’s imperative that law enforcement officers display the utmost situational awareness as they bring suspects into custody. They must specifically avoid actions that can be construed to be abusive, such as choke holds or strikes to the face, and employ the minimum level of force necessary for the situation. The problem is that, while physical interaction is the third step in the Use-of-Force Continuum, officers rarely receive training in this area. At Tactical Judo Solutions, our specialty is empty hand control and self-defense training. We approach suspect interactions using Judo—which translates into English as “The Gentle Way”—to address common or even surprise situations with soft techniques, such as joint locks, holds, and grabs. The bottom line for your department is that documented training in these proven techniques will help mitigate your legal liability. We’ve put together a curriculum that will help officers comply with their department’s Use-of-Force Continuum. Our introductory “Empty-Hand Control and Self-Defense Techniques for Law Enforcement” course has been approved for this purpose by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Program (POST) and will contribute four hours towards annual Continuing Law Enforcement Education (CLEE) training requirements. Let Tactical Judo Solutions be your provider of choice for continuing education! Services / Classes Offered:
Empty-Hand Control and Self-Defense Techniques for Law Enforcement
We have specifically designed this course to teach your officers Judo-based alternatives to striking in a confrontation. We’ll start with a classroom session where we discuss the legal ramifications of strikes or choke holds, which are currently the subject of intensely negative media scrutiny and often the basis for costly Unreasonable Use of Force lawsuits. We’ll then detail the principles of Judo and ways that these techniques are more effective than traditional striking. We’ll then focus on the basics for any physical encounter. We’ll teach your officers the fundamentals of falling without injury and then build upon that foundation as we delve into a spectrum of moves to recover from surprise attacks, including escapes, arm grabs, and wrist control. As we transition into the hands-on portion of the course, your officers will practice these moves with their partner under the close supervision of black belt Judo instructors. Our goal upon completion is that your officers can safely take a suspect into custody, apply pain compliance techniques as necessary, avoid injury in a sudden fall or from being knocked down, and escape from an attacker either standing or on the ground. Class Format
We conduct a one-hour classroom discussion followed by three hours of hands-on training on your premises. Participants should wear their normal boots, BDU pants, and a comfortable shirt. Although the techniques we cover are fully compatible with a duty belt, we will not wear belts in class to avoid wear and tear on the mats. All weapons should be secured away from the training area. This course has been approved by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Program (POST) and will contribute four hours towards annual Continuing Law Enforcement Education (CLEE) training requirements. Testimonials:
“A course that covers a subject which I haven’t received any additional training since the academy over 17 years ago. [This class] conducted exercises which put an emphasis not only on officer safety but subduing suspects with simple and easy to understand techniques.”

“I really enjoyed the class. As someone who has little practical experience in ground fighting, I felt the class better prepared me and provided a sense of confidence. The basics of the class lay a good foundation to build on and can even be practiced alone or with a partner. I would recommend this class for everyone.”
