Greetings from Munich, Coal Creek Trail parkrun family! ✈️🇩🇪
Your resident parkrun tourist, Elsa, checking in with a recap from my first global adventure at the Riemer parkrun in Germany! 🏃♀️🚶♂️🐕
Coming from our high-altitude home turf in Cedar City, I have to tell you, parkrunning at 1,700 feet feels like an absolute breeze!
Here is how a gorgeous morning in Germany stacked up:
The Course: Easily accessible right from the U-Bahn Subway, this beautiful route is a unique figure-eight loop around a stunning lake that even takes you down an old runway from the former Munich-Riem Airport.
The Elevation: While we are used to heading straight up into Cedar Canyon, Riemer offered a wonderfully flat and scenic course with only 43 feet of elevation gain!
The Community: Just like home, the parkrun spirit is alive and well across the Atlantic. There were 107 participants out on the path, including runners, walkers, strollers, and so many happy puppies.
The Apres-parkrun: You know I couldn’t skip the best part of the morning! Instead of our usual post-run gathering at Vittles Café, we finished the morning with delicious coffee and fresh pastries at a nearby German café. Most parkrunners came to the café afterwards, including the puppies!☕🥐
It was an incredible reminder of how the parkrun community connects us all, no matter where we are in the world. I can’t wait to bring some of this German energy back to Utah with me!
