It was the late ’80s, and a friend dragged me to a martial arts class at the health club. I told him, “Not my thing.” He pestered me anyway. I should either thank him or curse him—he took a few classes, I haven’t stopped since. Twenty months later I’d earned my black belt and a lifelong path (addiction  ). That accidental detour led me to change careers and build multiple companies. Ever had something “accidentally” steer your life in a new direction?
