Safari Golf Club - Washington DC, in which I am a proud founding chairman, was founded 21 years ago in Silver Spring, MD. It has grown from a modest 10 members to a membership that exceeds 120 today, not counting the other Safari clubs spawned all over the USA from Boston, to New York/NJ, Delaware, NC, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, and Los Angeles.
What brings us together is the love of golf, networking, and the camaraderie. Both the CEO and the ordinary guy or gal struggle to hack their way around the golf course, suffering the exact same fate and indignities of losing, or the joys of winning the game, or the bet. In short, golf imitates life!
We meet on weekends to play golf, talk nonsense and relish one another's style of play, but in the process get to know how your family is doing.
At the end of the day we sit down at the "19th" Hole for that final refreshing drink, then go home singing our respective circumcision songs.
This past Saturday was the last tournament of the year, to be resumed in April next year. It was sponsored by the founders. (One chap walked away with about $700.00! Still looking for him to buy the beer. Nkt!!!).
After a long hiatus away from golf, my muscles had forgotten the game and thought we were at the shamba, so I dug up the golf course like a true farmer. By the time I was done, It was ready for planting maize! What a day!!
