Out here in Alaska for a few days. It’s -17 degrees and my nostril hairs are frozen, but this beautiful scenery is worth it. Hopefully I can post videos/ pics of the Northern lights 🏔🌌

Shout out to Renee Roberts for this weeks question.
-
Question:
Should I have my heart rate elevated the entire workout?
-
Answer:
As a general rule of thumb you should always warm up and elevate your heart rate to 50%-85% before beginning your workout (refer to picture). However; once you begin this will change depending on what activity you’re doing and what you want to accomplish. To effectively answer this I’ll split it up into three sections.
-
1) Heart health
Aim to keep your rate below 70% of your maximum for the workout duration. Activity examples are walking, hiking, biking.
-
2) HIIT (interval training)
Short intense bouts of 10-30 second exercise (80%-100% of heart rate) followed by rest intervals of 60 seconds or less.
-
3) Weight lifting
Measuring heart rate while lifting doesn’t have much purpose. The goal is to finish your set and recover before your next. The greater the demand the longer the rest.
-
Pro tip:
Use a wearable activity tracker to track these metrics and get a deeper understand of your body.

Here's your weekly wacky fact 🤔🤯
-
Your heartbeat changes and mimics the music you listen to. Music slows you down or revs you up depending upon the tempo.
-
Pro tip: use medium tempo music for your warm up, high tempo for your workout, and slow tempo for your cool down. I’ve found this helps prime your body and mind for the activity at hand.

Here's some food for thought during these tough and tragic times.
-
“The limitation of riots, moral questions aside, is that they cannot win and their participants know it. Hence, rioting is not revolutionary but reactionary because it invites defeat. It involves an emotional catharsis, but it must be followed by a sense of futility.” -Martin Luther King Jr.
-
“Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness." -Martin Luther King Jr.

Here's your weekly wacky fact 🤔🤯
-
To burn off the calories of a single M&M you would have to briskly walk the length of a football field (100 yards).
-
Think about that before you binge on candy mmmkay?
