Our bowling family suffered a major loss yesterday. Our friend, Chris Hillman, left us, way, way too soon to join the angels in Heaven. Chris was a kind and loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and grandson. His presence on the bowling lanes was large and widely respected. His talent was undeniable. He was a fierce competitor. His presence here on earth will surely be missed, but we take comfort in knowing that we will be with him again in the future. It is a time of grieving, but all of our thoughts and prayers are with family and friends of Chris. Our hope is that the angels carry his soul to the gates of that bowling alley in the sky. Rest in Paradise Chris.

Steven Uribe, beloved son of Terry Lima, brother of Lee Uribe and life-long partner of Crystal Legaspi has left us on earth to join the angels in Heaven. Steven fought the hard battle and through all of his years of struggles and medical issues, he never complained about the cards that he was dealt. I will always remember Steven for his grit and perseverance. He was a true gentleman, a husband, a father, a son and a brother. He will be missed by those of us he leaves behind, but the angels have gained another true spirit today. Rest in Paradise Steven, and until we meet again on that big bowling alley in the sky, keep the gates open for us to join you. May your family and friends take comfort now knowing that you are no longer in pain and suffering.

It is with the deepest of sadness that I announce to all of our league members that one of our bowlers and good friends, Mike McGhee passed away this morning of an apparent heart attack. Mike was truly one of the good ones, always a smile on his face and always in a good mood. Mike was a great bowler and would get down on himself when he didn't bowl well. We would console each other by saying, throw that game out and move on to the next one. This truly was sad news and we will all miss Mike dearly. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts as he transitions into the next life. Mike, we will miss you and we will look forward to the day when we meet again on the lanes up in the Heavens. RIP.

Our 2024-2025 season comes to an end this coming weekend in Reno. It's been a great season, let's make Reno another great success. I want to remind all bowlers that even if you are not registered to bowl in our two optional events on Sunday, there are always some bowlers who end up not being able to make it to Reno. Currently, I do have two trios teams that will need a substitute. Those positions are already paid for and I'm sure those two bowlers would like to have a capable substitute. And, while we are booked full in the King/Queen of the Hill event, there could also be a no-show. My suggestion is to show up for these events and you may end up getting a spot. Sunday: King/Queen of the Hill at 12:00pm and Trios event at 5:00pm. See you in Reno. Drive safely!

And then there was one:
In one of the most dramatic and exciting finals match ever in the history of our league, "The Drill Factory" captured the overall league championship and claim that winner-take-all bonus cash prize of $5,000.
In the first-ever step ladder finals in the new format, "Yay, Team, Who-Hoo! #2" started in the #5 seed and climbed their way up the ladder to make it to the championship game.
And, what a game it was that saw the final ball thrown of the game to be the difference maker and for "The Drill Factory" to eek out an 8-pin victory.
Congratulations to all of the teams that made it to the finals and congratulations again to the winning team members: Jakharie Murphy, Caitlyn Mertz, Treico Holland, Dupree Dickey and Jeff Cotton.

I know I'm late getting this out with all the stuff I've been preparing for our sweepers, but I hope this will not deter everyone for coming to join in the Celebration of the Life of our dear friend and fellow-bowler, C.T. Thomas. He is truly missed and I'll always keep that thought of every time that he yelled it out "C'M on Mannnn"

Members of C'T's family will be in attendance to greet everyone and show their appreciation for our love over all those many years.

Please put a team together and come to bowl in memory of C.T. A sign-up sheet will be available at the front desk at Castro Village Bowl or you can contact Dan Stevenson or myself to reserve a spot.

Thanks so much in advance. Share this invitation with your bowling friends who may have known C.T. and would be interested in attending.

Monday Night Wild Card Standings

We Late - 64.1%
Matrix Transition - 63.3%
Good Energy - 61.7%
Have Fun - 61.3%
Em's Angel - 60.9%
The Drill Factory - 60.5%
About Damn Time - 58.6%
Doin' It Our Way - 57.0%
Zero F*x Given - 57%

Currently, The Drill Factory is leading the final third of the season. If they, or one of the other contending teams would win the final third, then each team would move up a spot. There are still four more weeks of bowling and still plenty of scenarios for making it to the playoffs.

Current Optional Event Entrties

Queen of The Hill - 4 entries - $186 prize fund
King of the Hill - 22 entries - $1,023 prize fund
Trios - 31 team entries - $4,324 prize fund
Random Doubles - 263 entries - $5,260 prize fund

Come on ladies, only four entries!!! This is a fun and competitive event. You are only competing against other ladies and it is fairly handicapped. One of the most exciting final's event we have ever had was the first year when we started this event and in the championship match, Summer Chen defeated Anurae Lethridge with a scratch score of 267-245. That was quite an exciting match. We need ladies to sign up and get their entries in. Don't make me beg!

Men's King of the Hill at 22 entries in ok, but we need more bowlers to make a better prize fund. As it stands now, first place would probably be around $450. We definitely need more scratch optional entries. The scratch option fee of $60 is all returned in prize money. The scratch portion is the three games of qualifying score.

King/Queen of the Hill is three games of qualifying on three pairs of lanes. The top five handicapped scores then move to the casher's round and will bowl the step ladder finals based on qualifying scores.

Remind your friends who might be coming to Reno that non-league bowlers are eligible to bowl in either Trios or King/Queen of the Hill events and thus will help increase those prize funds. Non-league bowlers must have a verifiable league average.

Tomorrow and Tuesday are the final nights to enter the Random Doubles portion of the sweepers. We are currently at 263 (131.5 teams) entries or $5,260 of prize fund. Let's set our goal at 300 total entries creating a total prize fund of $6,000. First place this year will be increased from $1,000 to the winning team to $1,500 ($750 per bowler) for this year. We will probably pay between 15-20 spots in the Random Doubles.

We will be picking partners starting next week. You can enter as many times as you like and you can cash any number of times. You will not bowl twice with the same partner.

Extra banquet meals for guests coming to join us at the banquet must be paid within the next two weeks. We have to give a firm count to the caterer prior to going to Reno. The banquet venue this year will be back at the National Bowling Stadium. Sweepers should finish by noon Monday morning and the committee will then begin the work of combining scores and gathering master envelopes to be prepared for the dinner buffet at 6:00pm.

I remind everyone that this will be the last opportunity in three years to be able to bowl at the National Bowling Stadium. Nationals will be held there in 2026 and 2027, leaving us only available to be able to bowl there again in 2028. This is a great opportunity and a note that when we resume our sweepers back at Grand Sierra, their entire bowl has been converted over to string pins.

See you on the lanes.

Summer Leagues are just around the corner and it's time to start making plans on which league to join up with this summer. Monday night's Black Oak Doubles League will be competing for the 15th season and this has been a quite popular league. It's that day trip at the end of summer to bowl sweepers at Black Oak Lanes at the Black Oak Casino/Resort. This year will be of particular fun because on May 15th Black Oak will be unveiling a brand new wing of the resort. Construction has been going on for the past two years and now the project comes to fruition. Those of us who bowled in the league last year also got to see the beautiful transition of the remodeled bowling center (I just love those gray-colored lanes and approaches).

We also bring back the popular Ball League where every bowler at the end of the 13-week session gets to choose a brand new ball of their choice. Unlike other ball leagues where you can only choose between one or two balls, our ball league allows you to make your choice of many from the current American- made balls.

Both of these leagues are USBC-sanctioned and you will get an average posted to Bowl.com if you are bowling in USBC-sanctioned tournaments.
Jubilee and B.A.R. leagues are returning on Wednesday nights and because of the popularity of these two leagues, priority to the leagues will be based on this past season's participation. A waiting list will be established if you want to be in line for any spots that might become open.

Sign-ups are now posted at the bowl. Let's get rolling into another great summer session.
