Vermont State University - Castleton still has roster spots available on both our Men's and Women's NCAA DIII Cross Country rosters for the fall of 2023. We compete in the NCAA DIII Mideast Region and the Little East Conference.

We are located in Castleton, Vermont, surrounded by miles of trails and dirt roads along mountainside lakes which give us every kind of terrain to run on during the season.

We offer over 105 academic programs, affordable tuition, merit and need based financial aid, and a rolling admissions process.
For Cross Country we are looking for men running in the 16-20 minute range and women in the 19-25 minute range for the 5K to compete in our conference and region. However, we welcome any runner who wants to set and break new personal goals and be part of a team family and commnity that fosters academic, athletic, and personal growth and well being.

We invite you to join us on Saturday September 2, 2023, at Castleton for our annual Cross-Country Invitational.

We have a classic Vermont Cross-Country course located on our campus that consists of grass fields and gravel and dirt wooded trails with no pavement. We will run both traditional distances of 5K for Women and 8K for Men!

Come join us for some great early season competition!

They did it again!!! Spartan XC and Track distance runners Amber Cuthbert and Jon Hendley broke their own school records in the Mile and 3000 meters respectively again today at the Utica Holiday Classic!

Cuthbert, a sophomore from Oak Bluffs, MA ran a new school record of 5:42.46 in the Women's 1 Mile Run.

Hendley, a Junior from Oneonta, NY, ran two new program records today, finishing the Men's 1 Mile Run in 4:44.10 and the Men's 3,000 m Run in 9:44.46!

These are just a couple of examples of the program records that were set by Spartan Track and Field runners, jumpers, and throwers today at Utica!

NORTHHAMPTON, Mass. – The Castleton men's track and field team opened their season at the Mary Grinaker Invitational this Saturday, kicking their season off strong by setting three new school records in the process.

Congratulations to Spartan Distance / Mid Distance runners Amber Cuthbert, Jon Hendley, and Wayne Alexander who set new school records today in the 1 Mile Run, 3,000 M run, and the 4x400 Meter Relay at the Mary Grinaker Invitational at Smith College.

Sophomore Amber Cuthbert set a new Women's Mile record with a time of 5:47.63 beating the previous mark of 5:52.54.

Junior Jon Hendley set a new record in the Men's Mile with a time of 4:46.15, besting the previous record of 5:17.37, and the Men's 3000 Meter record in 10:19.20, beating the former record of 11:01.31.

Junior Wayne Alexander helped set a new school 4x400 Meter Relay record with a time of 3:42.88, beating the previous held mark of 3:46.83.
