Have you been doing your WTS homework? This course demands the best out of you and your equipment, don’t sleep on it. Dig in and see if this desert bike adventure is right for you.

Javian Quinones is a dual sport ultra-athlete cyclists and runner. He’s completed ETS Slowdown, CTS Showdown, and WTS Showdown (DNF), among many other ultra accomplishments to his credit.

He recently recorded an episode for ultra_eq about his 2025 WTS experience. While he didn’t finish, this episode is a great resource that takes you through his process to prepare for WTS, his experience on the course (what went right/wrong), and what he’s going to do differently this year.

It’s a good and honest reflection of the race. You can glean a lot from this episode to help your first (or next) attempt be a success!

Looking for more WTS goodness? Check out the very bottom of the WTS website. I’ve linked videos, articles, and podcasts — so dive in!

The desert is calling.

But do yer homework.

Resupply.

For some, it’s a calculated race strategy…a quick stop to minimize stoppage and grab the calories and water needed to keep the wheels turning.

For others, it’s an oasis. A place to rest, regroup, and refuel before setting off toward the next Hill Country oasis.

And for a few, it’s where they make the tough call. Time to call in the cavalry, live to fight another day, and come back stronger next year.

Whatever it means to you, the Central Texas Showdown features some uniquely Texan places to eat, drink, and recharge along the route.

One word of caution though. Services are few and far between out here. Plan your stops carefully, carry enough to get between them, and independently verify store hours before race weekend.

What’s your favorite CTS resupply stop? ⬇️

Not everyone makes it through the desert.

Last year, the desert kept 68% of the field.

This December, it gets another chance.

I’m stoked to introduce our new home for WTS this year… TempleOfTheBirdTX

The Temple has plenty for camping for everyone, community restrooms, showers, kitchen, lots of covered sitting areas, two stages for live music, and one of the best views in Big Bend.

The owner is a cyclist who previously toured the world by bike with his dog Bixby.

We are cooking up a special experience for y’all this year. More soon!

Reg for WTS 2026 opens tomorrow at High Noon (link in bio).

Here we go again. Registration for the 4th edition of Central Texas Showdown opens April 23 at High Noon.

If CTS has been on your radar, this is your sign to quit messing around and make this the year. Patrick has been cooking up new route options for 2027, which means this may be your last shot at these roads for a while.

Also new for CTS ’26: .throwdown on Sunday. More details coming soon, but right now we’re looking at two options: 60.9 miles and 32 miles.

And since we’re already here helping you map out your year, swipe to the second slide for West Texas Showdown dates. 🤘🏻

Set your alarms and be ready at High Noon!

take a bow 🙇

Coming in 3rd overall and 1st place woman, with a record-setting time of 1d 2h 22m…she came to party.

You may notice she’s smiling in all the photos. I can tell you that wasn’t just for the camera, her enthusiasm for riding bikes and this community was a real shining star of the weekend.

Before the race even started, she offered to lead a women’s+ meet-and-greet that was well attended and even more appreciated. After that, she quickly established herself at the front of the race among a stacked field.

By the time she reached to start the “Death Star,” she was one hour behind eventual 2nd place , but she did not let him go quietly. Over the next 69 miles, she chased Dennis like one of those fast dawgs East Texas is known for. In the end, she had closed the gap to just 13 minutes. I would love to see the numbers from that section 🔥👀

She wasn’t done. The next morning, she signed up for the 42-mile inaugural .throwdown, where she placed 2nd.

It was a pleasure to watch Meaghan race and compete in our field. She is a fierce competitor, and that was on full display over 400 miles of East Texas piney woods. Equally notable was her contribution off the bike as an active, engaged, and enthusiastic member of the bikepacking community 🫶🏻

Congrats, and THANK YOU, Meaghan. We can’t wait to watch you on the Tour Divide this year.
