Hi Friends, wanted everyone to know that my husband Michael OMalley is recovering from open-heart surgery. He had an aortic valve replacement. He also had an aneurysm on his ascending aorta that has been repaired. He is in the best of hands at Keck
USC . If you haven’t seen me post or comment on any of your posts in a while, it is because I have been at the hospital pretty much around the clock. Mike started off at Valley Presbyterian. He was having trouble with his lungs and sleeping at night so I brought him to the emergency room where they were able to find these two things wrong with his heart. He was scheduled for the operation and ready to go. There was one more test that could only be done in the operating room at Valley Presbyterian and when they did that test, they realized that they did not have the equipment sufficient to keep his heart going during the operation and he needed to be transferred immediately to USC. The surgeon at USC Dr. Baker is one of the top cardiology surgeons we were very very lucky to have him do Mike’s surgery as he teaches clinics at USC to all of the up-and-coming cardiology surgeons of our future. Mike was scheduled to get his operation this Monday or Tuesday but Dr. Baker pushed it to happen on the Friday before. He didn’t want to risk anything happening to Mike’s other organs from the drugs, etc. Mike was in the ICU for 5 days. I slept next to him in the ICU the first night because he asked me to, and he rarely asks for anything. I have so much respect for his strength and his ability to fight to survive. His operation was successful, but he has been weak as expected from all the drugs snd medication . Mike has never done a drug in his life, so this has been a lot on his system. He is now working with an occupational therapist and speech therapist and he will be at the hospital for at least a few more weeks. We welcome all your prayers and positive postulates. Bring on the love❤️🩹
