My fellow race directors will probably agree, one of the hardest things about race directing is recruiting volunteers. Reliable, dilligent, hard working people willing to give up their weekend, to help out fellow runners achieve their goals.
Needing volunteers for Heartland races Friday October 9 - Sunday October 11, 2026. It takes a small army of volunteers to carry on a 100 mile race series such as Heartland 100. If you want to volunteer I've set up a sign-up link on ultrasignup. https://ultrasignup.com/volunteer.aspx?dtid=64437 Don't worry if you sign up and later feel you can't or don't want to volunteer that's quite alright. Right now we're trying to gather people together and see where we stand.
There are 7 manned aid stations for the 100-mile race. We need volunteers for a few hours up to the duration of the race 30 hours. Whatever you can manage, we'll find a station and time frame for you to fill. Volunteers need to keep track of runners as they pass thru. There have been a few questions on how to register for the Heartland 100 Relay. It's pretty simple. Assemble your team members. Choose your Team Captain/Manager. Team Manager registers like normal. After team captain enters his/her information registration will take you to a screen to enter team member information, (name & email.) Follow instructions on that page. When team registration is complete you will receive an email from ultrasignup with a link to a team management screen. Should have all the information you need there. Note you do not have to have all your team members before you register. For example if you only have 3 of 4 members simply insert team captains info for future team members to be added later. Heartland 100 - 4 person relay:

Heartland 100 mile relay, nine legs, four runners per team. Each team will have decide for themselves which of the four team members runs each leg of the relay, and how they want to divide the miles. The nine legs are as follows.
1)Start to Lapland aid station - 16 miles
2)Lapland aid station to Teterville rd aid station - 9 miles
3)Teterville rd aid station to Ridgeline aid station - 11 miles
4)Ridgeline aid station to Matfield Green aid station - 6 miles
5)Matfield Green aid station to Lone tree aid station and back to Matfield Green aid station - 16 miles
6)Matfield Green aid station to Ridgeline aid station - 6 miles
7)Ridgeline aid station to Teterville rd aid station - 11 miles
8)Teterville rd aid station to Lapland aid station - 9 miles
9)Lapland aid station to Cassoday Community center finish - 16 miles
We are offering an introductory registration price of $250.00, (= $62.50 per runner), now through 7/15/2026 Each team select a team captain.
