When was the last time you asked yourself…”how old do I feel?”

Not how old you ARE, how old you FEEL?

A lot of us out here once, we reach middle age, start FEELING IT!! Right? Some of us, may even feel older than we actually are.

Do not believe that you cannot fight aging.
Do not believe that you cannot fight genetics.

Do not believe that you have somewhere along the way, lost the POWER to feel good.

I am 49, and I’m not lying when I say I feel as good as I did when I was in my 30’s. Do I have to work a little harder? Yes. Do I have to change things up to shake things up? Yes.

But it’s possible! I didn’t give up and I don’t want you to either.

Pride lasts longer than the discomfort.

It’s not easy to put ourselves first for a minute.

It’s not easy to make all the healthy choices.

It’s not easy to put down an old lifestyle and pick up a new one.

It’s not easy to ask for help.

It’s uncomfortable.

But here’s the thing, the pride lasts longer than the discomfort.

Get comfortable with being uncomfortable, so that you can make room for feeling proud.

You hear me talk about macronutrients (macros) all the time, so what are they?

Macros are the main groups of food that make up our whole food nutrition in the FASTer Way. We focus on the big 3...carbs, protein, and fat. In our program, we don’t count calories, instead we count the macros that we eat every day. That’s because macros allow us a better idea of what nutrients are food contains. 100 calories of potato chips is a LOT different that 100 calories of sweet potato, right?

Macros also mean we don’t cut out one food group or another. Because your body needs all three!! You need carbs to regulate hormones and provide energy. You need protein to build lean muscle. And you you need fat for optimal brain and body function.

As a coach, I teach my clients to stop counting calories and to start to count macros; to think about food as fuel that our bodies need.

I know it’s Friday, but I’m already thinking about my weekend meal prep.

Having a plan and being prepared might not be the most exciting nutrition strategy I’ve got, but it works dammit!!

Sharing my top meal prep foods that I keep on hand as I start the week. Feel free to save and share with a friend who could use some help!

What’s better than an Irish Blessing on St. Patrick’s Day?

How about a healthier Shamrock Shake? Loving the recipe from fitfoodiefjnds...it’s only got 5 ingredients!

You’ll need:
4 med bananas (frozen)
1.5 C unsweet almond milk
Big handful of spinach
1/4-1/2tsp peppermint extract
1/4C choc chip OR
2T cacao nibs

Place all ingredients except chocolate in blender. I’d start with 1/4tsp of the extract and you can add more if you want it mintier.

Blend on high until smooth. Need it greener? Add more spinach. Too thick? Add more milk. More mint? More extract!!

Add in chocolate chips or cacao nibs and pulse a few times to crush.

One of the fun side effects about being a nutrition coach is that I get to surround myself with lots of healthy recipes and I have even become more confident in my own recipe testing!!

This Chunky Monkey Baked Oatmeal I came up with was JUST PERFECT for this slow Sunday morning we’re having over here.
