The World University Games are the world’s largest international sporting event for student-athletes, bringing together 7,500+ student-athletes from 100+ countries to compete across a variety of Olympic sports.

The Games have featured future Olympians, world champions, Hall of Famers, and some of the biggest names in sport, some including Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, Mia Hamm, Allen Iverson, Tim Duncan, and more.

In 2029, North Carolina will host the FISU World University Games, welcoming the world’s best university athletes for a once in a generation event 🌎

Why is this flag coming to North Carolina next year?

Exactly one year from today, the 2027 FISU World University Games in Chungcheong, South Korea will come to a close.

At the Closing Ceremony, the FISU flag will be handed to North Carolina showcasing NC as the next host of the World University Games 🌎

7,500+ student-athletes representing 100+ countries will come to North Carolina for the 2029 World University Games — the largest event in our state’s history.
