Hey everyone - now that we're getting back to normal around here, I'm starting to put together my availability for lessons coming up. Here's my availability for the remainder of April and all of May. For April, my schedule is a little more restricted, but it opens up a LOT for May.

For those of you who are new - times are first come first served, but if you need a certain time I can juggle things a little to try and get you close to what you need. When requesting a lesson time, it's best to let me know "pm lesson on x day, needs to be after x:xx time or finish by x:xx time" and I'll get you as close as I can to that. Yes, that's a little complicated, but I tried a scheduling app last year and HATED it lol, so until I find one I like, this is it. Also, best to message me directly, don't comment here, I don't always see it right away.

Ok - here's my availability:

April -

Thursday 4/16 AM and early PM lessons available (I have to be done by 230-3ish)

Saturday 4/18 PM lessons available

Saturday 4/25 PM lessons available

Monday 4/27 AM and PM lessons available

May -

Friday 5/1 PM lessons available

Saturday 5/2 PM lessons available

Sunday 5/3 I'll be at a trail/obstacles clinic at New Beginnings in middleboro - there is usually auditing available at any of the clinics we go to, small fee.

Monday 5/4 AM lessons available

Friday 5/8 PM lessons available

Saturday 5/9 AM and PM lessons available

Friday 5/15 PM lessons available

Saturday 5/16 - NO lessons this day - I'll be attending a working equitation clinic at NEECA

Sunday 5/17 late AM/early PM lessons available (11ish-2ish)

Thursday 5/21 PM lessons available

Saturday 5/23 PM lessons available

Wednesday 5/27 AM and PM lessons available

Saturday 5/30 PM lessons available

That's all for now, I'm excited to get back to work this spring! 🌞😎

Looking for the unicorn πŸ¦„ of barn helpers!

Small horse farm in Carver MA looking for help. Current days needed are Thursday afternoon and Saturday afternoon (doesn't necessarily need to be the same person for both) - other openings occasionally come up as well. I do shift work at the sheriff's office and need to have someone reliable here at feeding times since I can't always be here.

Feeding times are approximately 7-8 in the morning, 4-5 in the afternoon. It includes cleaning stalls/paddocks (it's mostly paddocks as they have "in and out" stalls), raking up hay, filling water, feeding hay/grain, and bringing out hay/grain for the next shift. We have a pretty streamlined system that makes it pretty easy. I can usually do chores in under an hour - some people it takes a little longer - but it's set up to be easy - and hay and grain are measured out in advance. Because its set up to be done in an hour or less, its best suited for someone close to us for it to be worthwhile.

What I can offer - I'm happy to trade for lessons and/or a partial lease (or partial trade for board), or can do pay. Volunteers also welcome. I also don't mind teaching people who are new to horses.

What I require - someone reliable, and someone who wants to spend some time with some pretty cool animals. Over 18 with own transportation preferred.

Edit to add - it is best to message me - and it might take me a day or two to reply as I can't always have my phone with me at work, so please be patient!

I realize I haven't posted much since the "snowpocalypse" of last week, followed by brutally cold temperatures. Its been an exercise in endurance, to be sure, and even I have questioned my life choices lately. It's meant a lot of extra hours shoveling, breaking ice in water buckets, extra late night hay cubes with nice warm water, etcetcetc! But...a few things to share...

Biggest share...tonight when I brought out hay cubes, Roger NICKERED at me. I'm not delusional enough to think it was all about me, as he LOVES his hay cubes...but I'd like to think that I'm enough a part of his life that maybe I was a thought in there too. Horses thrive on routine and consistency, and although I haven't been able to spend much quality time with him lately, at least he knows I exist. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ˜

Was treated to a feed store gift certificate and a lovely note today from one of the best possible boarders you could ask for, Suzanne...

And we've also been treated to some gorgeous sunsets recently, the pictures truly don't do it justice!

Most of all, my huge thanks to Justin, Barbara, and all of our barn help that pitched in extra recently...you've all kept me going when I was starting to doubt I could!

Managed to get everyone groomed today and all had some option of hand walk, lunge, or ride today. Its sadly still not summer but a definite improvement over last week's temperatures!

Just took a break for a late lunch and headed back out for chores!

It might not seem like much to some, but I had a HUGE win with this guy today...

He met me at his gate to be groomed.

That's it.

Doesn't seem like a lot, does it? It is though. It's been just over a year since Roger came to us, and while we've made progress, he has still been a little reserved with even those of us who primarily handle him (very much like our last Belgian, Captain - I sure loved the hell out of him and he definitely tolerated the hell out of me lol), and very suspicious of new people. I would usually have to go into his paddock to get him, it might take a few tries and lots of snorts to get his halter on, and then he was usually good for whatever I asked, but still not *thrilled* with it. Today was different - he saw me coming with his halter and grooming bucket and he MET ME AT THE GATE! Like, he VOLUNTEERED for it today.

The weather has not been conducive to much riding lately - its been either snow, ice, or currently like concrete on the ground, and quite cold too! But, we're still here taking care of ponies anyway, and trying to keep them groomed, lunged, handwalked, or short rides when the footing is ok - for their sanity and ours! Got a lot more snow than expected last week but it was fluffy- was able to walk around on Remy...and after the brief warm up and rain the other day, the ground is now clear with some frozen puddles, I was able to walk around with Kid yesterday (last photo).

On the bright side, days have started to get longer!

Short video, great explanation of negative reinforcement. (And yes, there is also positive reinforcement, thats a whole other topic...)

Side note - the first time I did the Versatile horse and rider competition at Equine Affaire, was one of the first years that they held it. David O'Connor was the announcer and I remember at one point hearing him say "what a brave little horse" - after that I could have just walked away right there, David O'Connor complimented my horse, that was a win! If I remember correctly, Cody and I came in 10th out of about 30 horses, not too shabby anyway! πŸ˜‰πŸ€
