Been having all the students come up with a 4 step and teach it. Here Mr. Ian and Mr. Morgan share what they came up with.

Decided to let the students work with some traditional weapons. These aren’t taught that often but since I made these for an upcoming event I figured they would enjoy getting to play with them.

Had the students work their blocks the wrong way! I always teach them to block over the lead leg, this assists the structure of the block and helps control distance. Unfortunately you can’t always choose where you’re going to be when you have to block.

After last week’s snowpocolips we’ve been doing extra classes. Today was a great class with everyone putting in the work!

End of class tonight working a new variation of 4 step where the students had to apply one of the belt rank techniques they were working on earlier. It doesn’t sound too hard but when you don’t know how your opponent is going to attack it gets a little hairy!

4 step is a training exercise we use here in the dojo where your opponent attacks with anything they come up with and then

Step 1. You stop the attack (by blocking, counter attacking, just not being there)

Step 2. Destroy opponents balance (by striking, pushing, pulling, etc)

Step 3. Take opponent down (throws, sweeps, etc)

Step 4. Control opponent (mat holds, chokes, joint locks, strikes)

This is fun way of practicing techniques and getting a feel for what does and doesn’t work together.
