I have built touring bikes the have been used all over the world,downhill bikes that have won world championships,bmx bikes that have won world and national titles and bik

es that have won crank works.My personal cycling skills and achievements include winning the Kamikaze downhill,Nevada state bmx champion,district #1 bmx champion. I have raced xc mountain,downhill,road,dual slalom,bmx and even indoor roller racing and started carson city's bike polo league(sadly that died). Warning this not the standard bike shop(sbs). Like all SBS’s they are salesman. They got to sales seminars…I don’t. The SBS world is now flooded with concepts on branding, store design…all concepts to make you buy more(to manipulate you). The second you walk into my shop you’ll understand it’s a SHOP not a specialty BOUTIQUE.

Ok so 2 of the oddest trends in the off road world for me was the handlebars so wide your chest is touching your top tube and the use of flat Bmx pedals. Clipping in is just so must better. Now a nice set of Ritchey flats…the end is here.

Ray Henderson passed away… Ray was a local skater guy that was good. My relationship with Ray was he needed rides to skate ramps and I had the ride and I needed a connect to get me on the ramps why you might ask? Well I’m a bmxer and most the ramps in the area were owned by skaters so show up with the cool guy skater that every guy liked because he was a good skater and most of their girlfriends wanted to screw him I was in. Now back then we went to some junk ramps but Ray would shred it up most the posers would chill on the deck or go inside cause they sucked and then me and Ray had the ramp to ourselves. Ray was never a jerk but his skill level scared off the others. Worked for me. One time we went to a guys ramp that the dad got mad at the kid and took a chainsaw to it. Dad did a good job and if you just put decks back on it would have made a great mini ramp oh and then the L shaped mini we rode in minden….that was so cool listening to KISS in the agro zone. Great memories thanks Ray.

Sad day. Sergio and his with were killed in a car accident recently. I have known Sergio since the late 80’s. He was Bmx guy. As a Bmx guy in Carson in the late eighties we all knew each other. We would ride at all the local spots and Sergio was a local at the nightly legislature building hangout riding freestyle doing 80’s flat land and playing balance. As people get older and move out of Bmx I would see him in the shop now and then working on some bike build or project. The last 2 times he can in once was looking for a road shifter and then he was looking for a display counter for I think for his hot wheels collection. Sergio was like all Bmx guys into cars and had a beautiful VW bug and I think he had a cool mini truck…he will be missed. When I think of all the Gen X bmxers as some of us move out of Bmx we still share the same hobbies must be the Gen X spirit. Rip Sergio and Jennifer.

Sad news a shop friend passed away…Kevin Shumaker. From what little I knew of him he was a fellow bmxer. Kevin always had interesting comments here on the shop page. Once I posted about 2 books about wheel building. I said how one was interesting and the other one sold by wheelsmith was boring. Well Kevin had to tell me he read the boring book and it taught him how to build wheels. To this day he’s the only person I knew other than my self to ever read a wheel building book. Funny thing I remember most of the vintage stuff he would post photos of used tuff wheels. Odd thing I love tuff wheels but hate to use them. I think they are one of the most iconic symbols in Bmx. Kevin could leave a good comment about this….

Today in passing while getting breakfast at McDonald’s I saw “bleed my brakes for a burrito” guy. Now this guy was the definition of the “cycling weasel” all ways wanting something below market value…that means just wanting to screw me over. My interaction with him was use a tool,use the pump,want free technical advice and the always popular one “could you look at this”….thats code for fix something for free. Now none of this would be a problem if the weasel actually bought something,he never did. Now if this was someone with a real personality things would have been different. Maybe a person with a real racing background or someone else with a real love of cycling, just some good conversation about anything cycling. Come in the shop offer up a Red Bull or a coffee….but nothing from the weasel. Most of the time they don’t have a spouse…male or female…because the spouse would do all the work. The “cycling weasel” is smart it’s money is plentiful and well protected. If you do get them to open their wallet the president’s actually start rubbing their eyes because they haven’t seen daylight in so long but when I saw “the weasel” he walked in didn’t order anything and went over with a large bottle and started to load up on free soda…warning “the weasel “ never changes.

Ok I did it again I made a low ball offer on this “vintage road bike”. Now I don’t know what a persons life is like hell the guy could be a gambling addict and he needs money to pay off his bookie…but the guy responded about how he has had a 500 offer so should I offer $501? Plus he told me he’s not in a rush to sell it. Whatever I don’t care just say no thank you or give me a counter offer. So I did go off a little and in a nice way I said….”thats a DELLA SANTA MADE BY ROLAND DELLA SANTA one of the best frame builders on the west coast he built bikes for Greg Lemond the only AMERICAN to win the tour…his frames won WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS with Lemond that bike should be hanging in a shop where people can enjoy a true piece of local history….you say nothing I the add about it being a DELL SANTA.” This guys an idiot it says DELLA SANTA on it. People sell bikes at deal prices all the time…my DELLA SANTA is beautiful with a spare set of wheels was $500…my LITE SPEED was also an amazing beautiful bike I paid $150 for it. The people I got them from probably didn’t need the money they just didn’t want them anymore. So used bikes don’t sell well right now unless they’re cheap. Tuff economy right now…good luck on the sale George but it’s a DELLA SANTA LEAD WITH THAT….

So Tinker is looking for a shoe sponsor and he is a little picky he wants Gearne carbon or SIDI…he says his hook up a Gearne never got back to him…oops. Come on probably the longest pro cycling career of any living human at 65 years old still racing and a 1994 mountain bike sliver medal world champion. He was the only American man to place that year alongside 3 American women. Seriously the guy is on Facebook asking for help. Funny thing is most companies hand out bro deals and back door discounts like Halloween candy…..give this legend some shoes and maybe some travel cash. S**t Tony Hawk is selling vitamins on NewsMax…Tinker at 65 should be doing commercials on NewsMax or Rumble or something just give the guy some shoes. At wholesale the most expensive SIDI’s are about $380…

Oh here it comes…32 inch wheels. Ok I’ll say it…this is fu***ng stupid. Ok 26” worked…then a new scam 27.5/650b….dumb but fools bought them…oh wait a new industry standard 29” now at least this was just fat 700c so if you had to add something this was ok I guess but 32”….this is just stupid. Time to start a protest…bring back 26”.

Most people should read any book on sales and negotiation…seriously. Dude wants way too much for a 26” wheel bike with fair to good components. Problem its freaking 26” dude….its a looser. Tires are going away rims hardly anyone makes replacements and forks they don’t make them in 26 inch anymore…so $1400 way to much so I made you an offer then you get all butt hurt…just say no thanks or give me a counter offer…but no you need to tell me this is not the bike you dump…yes you do cause it’s a looser. People don’t want 26inch wheels anymore…
