Thanks to Jonathan Ying of Indes Images for capturing the joy and camaraderie of beating each other up with swords! As we near our fifth and last FrauFecht, we're so proud of what we've accomplished for women in HEMA and how far our competitors, instructors, judges, and organizers have come since we started. For our very last FrauFecht, we are embracing our motto of "Camaraderie Over Competition" by putting all the workshops and tournaments on Saturday and making room for Beach and Board Games on Sunday, and even a karaoke party on Saturday night! Registration is still open for all tournaments.

We're so excited to welcome Martha Humber as an instructor this year, for Intro to Parrying Cloak! She was our rapier champion in 2024 and makes beautiful cloaks!

Martha has been training with Diamond Rose Academie D’Armes for 7 years. She loves fencing for its history, for the mental and physical challenge, and for the community it provides. She is active in Hema competition and has achieved the rank of Cadet from DRAD, denoting proficiency with rapier and smallsword singly or paired with dagger, cane, buckler, or cloak.

Course description: Though few chapters in our historical treatises are dedicated to the use of cloak, this underrated off-hand weapon should be a part of every serious fencers arsenal. Not only for the effective techniques it facilitates, but also for the grace, style, skill, and coordination that the competent use of it displays. Join a beginner-friendly course on the basics of using the parrying cloak and discover the joy of flurls. We will be covering what to look for when purchasing or making a cloak, the options for hand grip and guards, the strengths and weaknesses of the weapon, as well as basic parries, beats, and throws.

Equipment requirements: mask, gorget, basic gloves, rapier or smallsword, and a parrying cloak (loaner cloaks will be provided on a first come first served basis).
