The girls rocking their Father’s Day tattoos during bracket play last week, they went 2-2 for the weekend. They enjoyed this past weekend off and got some practice in. Next up, is the Jackson Xtreme Firecracker Tournament.

Carl Hoppel - Ohio’s first freshman state champion

Carl became Ohio’s first freshman to win a state wrestling title when he defeated Frank Cunningham of Bridgeport in the 120-pound championship in 1959.

Had it not been for a controversial last-second takedown against him in his semifinal loss as a sophomore, he may have been Ohio’s first four-time state wrestling champion.

Hoppel was never pinned in high school and compiled a 99-2 career record.
