Hole 10 ⛳️ "First Pearl"

The tenth hole at Sugarloaf is the first of legendary course designer Robert Trent Jones Jr.’s “String of Pearls,” and once you stand on the tee box you’ll immediately understand why. This short par 4 starts high above the fairway, with views right of the Crocker Mountains, the surrounding valley, and a maze of fairway and bunkers below. This hole’s distance may make it seem easy, but the constant challenges it throws your way will make you forget the yardage. The approach goes over yet another line of bunkers, and you won’t want to be a yard long of the green- a steep dropoff into the roaring Carrabassett River looms just behind the left-to-right sloped green.

Hole 9 ⛳️ "Lost Bunker"

The front 9 is rounded out with what is regarded widely as the hardest hole on the course. The tee shot is relatively straightforward, with a good drive up the left side giving you the best look on the approach shot. Hitting uphill into the green, the massive bunker just short of the green will be sure to draw your attention. Once you get on the green don’t be so quick to put away your wedge, as the contours are known to carry missed putts back off of the putting surface.

Hole 8 ⛳️ "Cat-N-Nine Tail"

This short par 3 is a good practice in target golf. With water short, a bunker right, fall off long, and long grass to the left, landing on the green is pretty much the only option. Depending on pin placement, this hole can range anywhere from a difficult par to a good opportunity for a hole in one.
