It’s amazing what mum keeps. I found this Skip Elliott Sailmaker duffle bag in an archive crate in the attic the other day. I’m gonna guess it’s unused. Circa 1982-86 when we had the privilege of Skip & Stephanie, Ken Puryear, Larry ‘Heartattack’ and other Nacra USA reps come down under to compete in the annual Australian Nacra Championships.

Nacra 36 - boat number 8 - at Umina Beach in the north of Sydney, Australia. Circa 1986. With the original Skip Elliott mainsail and screacher (probably before the word screacher was invented). The beauty of the 36 was that we could sail it up at any beach, stop for lunch and zoom home. It was the ultimate off-the-beach cat.

For those familiar with the area, that’s Lion Island in the background and the entrance to Pittwater in the distance on the left and the entrance to the Hawksbury River on the right.

Just received these great photos from about 1981 when Nacra in Santa Barbara loaded up Nacra 36 number 8 into the container for Sydney, Australia along with a handful of other Nacra catamarans and parts. Thanks Jacra, we love seeing the history.
