Blackhawk Taekwondo

Blackhawk Taekwondo We are a Veteran Owned and Operated Taekwondo School that teaches from 3 years old to Adults

Blackhawk Taekwondo is a student and family first traditional martial arts school that is veteran owned and operated. We pride ourselves in putting our families, students, and the art of TaeKwonDo first and business second. With this philosophy you will find that there are no gimmicks, no fine print, no smoke and mirrors, just real Masters and Instructors with a passion to teach, learn, and grow t

he art of TaeKwonDo in our community. We have over 40 years experience in TaeKwonDo, training and competing globally, and a training and study program that has been developed and passed down for generations. When you arrive at our school you will notice that the curriculum has not been watered down or bought from third party sources like some others, it is traditional and effective. We want our students to not only be confident in themselves, but to also be effective in making good choices, decisions, and being able to defend themselves. While many schools focus on fun and games we believe that we can have fun while training without sacrificing precious class time on games. Martial Arts in and of itself has been known to not only help but improve students lives that have trouble paying attention, staying focused, and learning. Traditional martial arts has been doing this for decades without smoke and mirrors and without the use of so called unaccredited "Child development courses"

You will also find here that adults and children have separate class times for training. This is especially important for parents who need to turn off being a parent for an hour and focus on themselves. Adults will also learn to not only be more confident, but also get stronger, and let go of the stress that comes with being an adult. We believe that the stress you come in with should be left on the mat and not picked back up and carried with you when you leave. You will notice differences in training between the age groups because we create classes based on the need of the student, and the need of a 10 year old is not the same need as an adult. We believe in balance between a healthy mind and a healthy body to go along with the ability to take control of a situation at a moments notice.

The truth is Taekwondo is not easy. To make progress you need to overcome many obstacles. No two peoples obstacles are exactly the same. Some obstacles are physical, like injuries, flexibility, unable to get a certain kick or technique, coordination, etc. Some are mental. You may have no desire/ motivation to get better or you may not want to put in the extra work to do so, you could be concerned about what you may look like in front of other people or not being good enough.
The fact remains the same at the end of the day. At some point of your training you will come to a crossroad when you question whether or not you want to continue training because carrying on becomes too difficult or your drive to go on diminishes. You may come to that cross road many times. It is what you do in those moments that creates your future.
So how do you push through when you feel like quitting? Ask yourself why are you training? Why did you begin training? Take a look back at how many times you have overcome something you thought you were not capable of. I can guarantee there are more than a few instances where this has happened. Is this a decision you can live with wherever you are at in your journey? Another important fact to remind yourself of is the more times you allow yourself to quit something the easier it becomes to quit things in the future.
If it is your child that wants to quit, ask yourself how many times have you wanted to quit something but you have pushed through because you have had people depending on you. Do you want your child to believe that when things get hard that it is ok to quit. From all of our years of experience we have found that on the days when they don’t feel like going and they have a supportive parent that brings them, once they get on the mat they are happy they have come. The same goes for adults if they push themselves to show up when motivation to do so is not there.
Motivation comes and goes, a decision to quit something that you’ve worked so hard for is with you forever.

Congratulations to our new 2nd Dan Black Belt Walter, and our new 1st Dan black belts George, Maksym, Henry, and Russell. Saturday was one of the longest testings to date. They started testing at 11:00am and it ended at 9:30pm. It was a long and exhausting day but everyone pushed through it. Black Belt testing is never easy and going through it a second time takes a lot of courage. We are beyond impressed with how these 5 not only made it through this testing but also made it through this year and the requirements when a lot of their peers they were supposed to be testing with did not. Congratulations Walter, George, Maksym, Henry, and Russell. We will see you in class after the new year.
