π¦ Hermit Crab Fun Fact! π¦
Did you know hermit crabs don't actually grow their own shells? As they get bigger, they have to search for larger empty shells to move into! Sometimes they'll even line up and "trade" shells when a better one becomes available.
These fascinating little beach explorers play an important role in coastal ecosystems by helping clean up organic debris and recycling nutrients along the shoreline.
We came across this busy bunch while out exploring with our Sand Dipper Digger Sifter. It's always exciting to see what treasures (and tiny residents!) the beach has hidden beneath the sand.
π Have you ever spotted a hermit crab while shelling? What's the most you've seen in one place?
