Just another “quick 20-minute job” in the shop… 😅

The generator came back from rental with a broken display wire buried deep inside the unit. Instead of tearing apart the entire front half of the generator, we’re trying a little creativity, some solder seal connectors, a heat gun, and a lot of optimism.

Of course, the clock is ticking, there’s a meeting coming up, and the race prep list keeps growing. If you’ve spent any time around racing, you already know the drill: a thousand 15-minute jobs somehow turn into four-hour projects.

Let’s see if this repair holds and gets us back on track. 🏁🔧

Testing the new winch setup with Brian the Car today… and let’s just say it wasn’t exactly a flawless victory. 😅

The modified race ramps looked good on paper, but once we started loading the car, it became clear we still have some work to do. Between the trailer sitting downhill, the truck angle, and Brian’s extremely low front splitter, getting everything lined up was a challenge.

After some creative problem-solving (and a few adjustments), we got the car loaded safely. That’s all part of racing—sometimes the work behind the scenes is just as important as what happens on track.

The good news? The new winch works. The bad news? We need a better loading solution before the next event.

One step closer to a smoother setup. We’ll keep improving and bring you along for the process.

Some days it feels like there's still a mountain left to climb.

Other days you look around and realize you're already living something you once hoped for.

Most people think the track day starts when the green flag drops.
It doesn't.

Before either Corvette ever turns a lap at a race track the truck has to be loaded, the trailer prepared, fuel purchased, and hundreds of miles covered just to get to there.

For this event at Roebling Road, transportation alone cost nearly $260 in gas for the motorhome towing Black Betty and $290 for the diesel truck and enclosed trailer towing Brian the Car —and that's before the race car even gets unloaded.

This is Part 2 and the conclusion of my series breaking down what a track day really costs. At the end of the day, it shouldn't matter. If it's your passion and what you want to do, you'll find a way.

Most people think a track day costs whatever the registration fee costs.

For the last event at Roebling Road Raceway, the entry fee was about $200.

Sounds pretty affordable, right?

The reality is that the entry fee is only the beginning. Before the Corvette ever turns a lap, there's a truck, trailer, fuel, insurance, tires, brakes, maintenance, and a lot of behind-the-scenes work that most people never see.

In Part 2, I'll break down what it costs just to get everything to the track.

What do you think a typical track day actually costs?

One of the things I’ve learned, and you probably have too, is that Murphy’s Law isn’t always very nice.

It’s a little windy today, and I’ve got to get in here and work on this generator. The problem is, this door keeps wanting to swing into me while I’m working.

So I went into the garage and grabbed the first thing I saw that might help: the old A/C condenser from Black Betty. We don’t need it anymore because there’s no need for air conditioning on the track. So it was just sitting there taking up space.

Well, not anymore.

Today, it’s been promoted to doorstop duty. Hopefully it’ll keep this door from slamming into me while I get this work done.

Fingers crossed. Stay away, Murphy. We don’t need any help from you today.

Everyone wants to drive the race car.

Few people want to do the work that comes before and after the session.

Jayden is 14 years old.

Before he ever straps into Black Betty, he's checking tire pressures, torquing wheels, loading/unloading trailers, changing fluids, and learning that preparation matters.

Racing is fun.

Responsibility, attention to detail, and work ethic are the real lessons.

What responsibility did you have when you were 14?

Most people see the few minutes a race car is on track. What they don’t see are the countless hours spent maintaining the trailer, the tow rig, the RV, the tools, and everything else that makes race day possible.

Today’s challenge? Our RV came back from a rental and the generator quit working on day two. With a trip this afternoon to drive the Quartermaster Jet Funny Car, there’s no time to waste.

After checking the basics—fuel, oil, and the usual suspects—I found what appears to be the culprit: a wire behind the generator that was never properly crimped and has finally worked itself loose. Now it’s time to squeeze into a tight space, make the repair, change the oil, and hopefully get everything back up and running before I hit the road.

This is exactly what Bennett Motorsports is about. The reality of motorsports is that there’s a lot more to it than driving. Some people love turning wrenches and solving problems. Others just want to show up, put on a helmet, and enjoy the experience. That’s where we come in.

We handle the prep, maintenance, and trackside support so you can focus on driving.

Now it’s time to see if we can beat the clock, fix this generator, make my meeting, and get to the track.

Thinking about attending your first event at Roebling Road Raceway?

This onboard lap is intended to help future drivers become familiar with the track layout, corner sequence, and overall flow of the circuit before arriving at the track.

This footage was recorded during the first test session in "Brian the Car," Bennett Motorsports Support's race-prepared Corvette. The primary objective of the session was to verify vehicle systems, evaluate the car, and begin building familiarity with a new platform after nearly two years away from road racing.

As a result, this lap should be viewed as a track familiarization reference rather than an example of ultimate pace or an ideal racing line. Braking points, turn-in points, and driving techniques will vary based on vehicle setup, track conditions, and driver experience.

Organizations such as SCCA and NASA do an excellent job helping new drivers safely learn the fundamentals of high-performance driving through structured instruction and coaching.

We hope this video helps you arrive better prepared and more confident for your next event at Roebling Road Raceway.
