Caro Soccer Families,
We had hoped to come to you with positive news regarding our lease discussions with Almer Township, but unfortunately we still have significant concerns about the long-term future and stability of our program at the soccer fields.
Recently, a lease agreement was publicly referenced as “approved” before Caro Soccer Club had reviewed or agreed to the terms. Since then, we have submitted proposed revisions and redline edits in an effort to create a more balanced agreement that reflects the reality of how the facility is operated and maintained.
Additionally, despite previously expressing concerns regarding safety, placement, and coordination surrounding additional monuments and events on the property, another monument was installed without consultation or communication with the Soccer Club. We fully support honoring our veterans and community events, but continued decisions affecting the property without discussion make long-term planning and safe operation of the fields increasingly difficult.
As many may not realize, Caro Soccer Club is currently responsible for nearly all field operations and maintenance, including mowing, utilities, bathrooms, repairs, trash, field upkeep, and general maintenance — all while also paying rent for use of the property. Despite this, the proposed agreement still allows unrestricted facility access and use by the township at any time without notice or coordination.
Our requested changes are focused on creating a fair balance between responsibility and operational control, protecting the club from liability related to third-party use, and ensuring communication regarding access, scheduling, and maintenance expectations moving forward.
Our goal has never been conflict. Our goal is to protect and sustain a safe, stable, community soccer program for the kids and families who use these fields each season.
We are continuing to attempt good-faith discussions with the township and will again attend the Almer Township meeting tomorrow evening in hopes of making progress toward a fair agreement that supports youth sports in our community.
