Shooters,
We recognize that the current ammunition situation is putting a strain on shooters and the shooting community as a whole for the 2021 season. We have been brainstorming some ideas at BRASS to give shooters the ability to shoot matches this year in spite of this. As a result, we are allowing shooters to replace their rifle with a .22 caliber rifle, and their pistol with a .22 caliber pistol, provided they meet the requirements for their designated division (i.e., dot on a pistol still puts you in Open, etc.). Shooters will be permitted to shoot a .22 caliber PCC in PCC division this year as well.
Shooters will still be required to engage all rifle/pistol targets as stated in the stage description (there will be no replacement targets) if they choose to use a .22 pistol/rifle as a replacement. For shooters using a .22 pistol, hits will be called on reactive steel that will not fall when hit (i.e. stationary steel, shepherd hook pistol steel, poppers, etc.). However, for moving steel/multi-target apparatus like the Texas Star, Feeling Lucky, etc. the shooter will have to use whichever firearm they have to knock plates off (i.e. if you’re running a .22 pistol in a standard 3 gun division, you will have to use your shotgun to KO plates off of the star, and if you’re running 2 Gun with a .22 pistol and rifle you will need to use your .22 rifle to KO plates).
We have tested all of our stationary and reactive steel targets with .22 pistols and rifles, and we have found that 1200+ fps .22 ammo out of a rifle will knock plates off of the stars and KO 4x10 plates on a stand. However, please understand that calling hits on stationary rifle steel at distance will be difficult for ROs, even with the use of MagnetoSpeed T1000 indicators. Spall on target will be considered hits, and stationary targets will be painted prior to a .22 shooter shooting, however, it will be up to the shooter to move on if the RO is unable to call a hit. Also, please keep in mind that some rifle targets will be placed at up to 200yds+. Shoot a .22 rifle at your own discretion/ability level.
We hope that this will keep our shooters in the game as much as possible this season, even if it means taking a break from your .223 match rifle/9mm match pistol for a match or two this season.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
See you on the range,
Caro BRASS
