Incredible energy from all at the ZAA Weapons Seminar in Alexandria, VA. Immersing ourselves in the traditional weapons that build the foundation of everything we do empty-handed. Thank you to for hosting an incredible seminar!

Bokken dori (sword disarms) from this week's training. Facing down a bokken can be intimidating, but breaking timing with an atemi (strike) helps create space enough to control the situation calmly.

A glimpse into this morning's dawn class working on Sankyo variations.

Sankyo requires immense precision, it’s not about applying brute force, but about listening to your partner's center and guiding their movement.

Congratulations to Jason for his successful test for 4th Kyu! This test is a point where training turns a corner and it’s great to see those skills develop. Diligent study and willingness to pass the knowledge on are cornerstone values of Aikido.

This is Jiyu-waza (free- technique). In these sessions, we begin with Sensei reviewing some techniques with us, then we take turns as one person responds to continuous attacks from the rest: there’s no set script; it’s about listening to the movement of your partner and responding with clarity and calm. It's about flow.

Watching our students navigate these transitions is a reminder that Aikido isn't about the moves you memorize, it's about how you adapt to the unexpected using what you've learned. Great energy on the mats this week!

Our Spring Dojo Soji (Cleaning) was a beautiful reminder that Aikido is a lifestyle of stewardship.
From our all-ages training session to the final slice of pizza, the energy was unmatched. We’re officially ready for a fresh season of training. Thank you to all who came out, see you on the mats!

It’s one thing to practice movements with a partner, it's another thing entirely when a bokken (wooden sword) is introduced to the equation. This class was all about precision, timing, and staying calm under pressure.

You don't always have to punch someone in the face: Even if they have a sword!

While the rest of the Hudson Valley is still hitting snooze, we’re finding our center on the mats. There is a unique kind of clarity that comes with dawn practice:
no distractions, just the sound of the breath and the movement of the art. Leaving class with the rising of the sun.

It’s more than a workout; it’s a way to set the tone for everything that comes after.
