We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved friend, Ken. We were truly blessed to have him as part of our staff for many years. Ken had a strong work ethic—despite his limitations, he gave everything he did here 100% effort. He had an infectious laugh that could turn anyone’s day around.
In his free time, Ken enjoyed watching gory horror movies (except for MASH*, which had too much blood for his liking), singing karaoke, and enjoying a good meal—lutefisk being his favorite. He made friends with just about everyone he met, including a few celebrities. Most notably, his friend Richard Simmons, whose show Ken appeared on as a child to discuss his weight loss journey. He also made friends with local personalities, like his #1 fan, WDIO meteorologist Justin Liles.
We would like to thank our members who made his time here so special—Mr. Ed, Sherri, and Faye. Thank you as well to the incredible staff at North Shore Community Options, especially Jeff and Melanie, who showed Ken such tenderness and care while assisting him at work. And to our trainer Amanda, who always had his laundry basket ready each morning, often with a few extra surprises inside. We are also grateful to anyone else who helped make his time here a meaningful experience.
Although he carried many crosses in his life that most do not, Ken walked through it with a rare kind of joy and determination that radiated into the hearts of those around him. He was one of those beautifully unique souls you don’t come across often in life.
You will be missed by many, Ken. May you rest in God’s eternal peace. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
