***REMINDER: Please send a message of support for bill H5587 to [email protected] by Wed., Aug. 5th! Rep. Cataldo filed this bill to create a trust for Great Brook to collect donations as a way to fund parking improvements. The bill asks for no money from the state budget. Although most state parks do not have such a funding mechanism, Great Brook is worthy of one because its ski area:
1. is a regional resource serving e. massachusetts and beyond
2. is one of only two ski areas offering groomed nordic trails and rental ski equipment within 100 miles of Boston
3. can serve thousands of people in a single day
4. has an unbearable problem that skiers want to help fix: a parking lot that's usually too muddy to use...
Great Brook's ski season is so short that parking capacity needs to be fully utilized, and currently it seldom can be. This bill is the solution so please show your support.
Please also email your state rep. and senator and tell them that H5587 is important to you.
Thank you!!!

ANOTHER CALL FOR YOUR HELP! In a second attempt to create a trust for accepting donations for the benefit of Great Brook Farm State Park, Rep. Simon Cataldo has filed bill H5587. A hearing on this bill will be held Wednesday and written comments will be accepted until August 5th.
PLEASE EMAIL [email protected] to express your support! This trust would enable private fundraising for improvements such as reliable parking, a necessity for the future of the ski facility.
See the Friends of Great Brook Skiing page for important details, and become a Friend if you haven't already.
Also, contact your state representative and senator to say that H5587 is important to you, and let's give thanks to Carlisle's Rep. Cataldo and Sen. Barrett for standing up for Great Brook!

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED! State Rep. Simon Cataldo has filed an amendment to the economic development bill H5562 to create the Great Brook State Park Trust, a funding mechanism needed for raising money to improve parking. This amendment would not cost the state money, it would simply establish an instrument to enable fundraising. This will be voted on this evening(!) so please contact your state rep. to support Rep. Cataldo's amendment!

Our season officially ends today and we thank all who joined us on skis at Great Brook Farm State Park. Sustained cold weather made it an especially enjoyable winter, both for the prolonged packed powder conditions and for the deeply frozen ground which allowed adequate amounts of parking for the first several weeks. Mud eventually closed the outer parking lot but the groomed ski trails stayed open for 49 days. It was a real winter!

Reliable parking remains a serious concern for the ski concession as Great Brook's unusually short ski season requires high visitation for the business to be viable. The ski community should applaud the efforts of Rep. Simon Cataldo ([email protected]) and the Friends of Great Brook Skiing (email to join: [email protected]) in working with DCR to enable adequate improvements to the outer parking lot. If successful, they will have done much to protect the future of skiing at Great Brook. Please express your support, and we hope to see you next year.

We will now be closed until more snow falls. March can be a surprising month and we will be hoping for some nice surprises!

Lantern Loop looks good this morning! Today will be the last day on this snow so come now if you can.

Monday, 3/9: ***CHECK OR CASH ONLY*** (no credit cards!)
With the great melt continuing, the grooming for today was focused on the field trails. Woods trails have weathered the warm temperatures better but are getting messy with twigs and other forest debris. With the heat level rising, the end is near...
Open 9-5 today.

Sunday, 3/8 morning update: Hoping to adjust expectations... Although the tracks and skate lanes of all trails were groomed last night, 12 hours of melting and some rainfall have taken the polish off their appearance. Today's conditions, and the snow pack in general, remain good though and it will certainly be an enjoyable day to be skiing.
