Kevin Preston's Siu Lum Pai Chinese Boxing Academy

Kevin Preston's Siu Lum Pai Chinese Boxing Academy CLASS ARE AT 5 TO 6.30 MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY Hung Gar Gung Fu is a southern Chinese Martial Arts style that developed from the roots of Shaolin Temple.

It was invented out of necessity rather than popularity. Hung Gar was founded around 1813 a.d. by Hung Hei Gung, and its origins date back to the Bodhidharma’s teachings. In the beginning, Hung Gar was developed for military fighting, a necessity that was needed to combat the oppressive Ching Dynasty during the Boxer Rebellion in China.Hung Hei Gung learned the Shaolin Lohan and the tiger system f

rom the Zen Master Chi Sin Sim See, an back-door disciple of the Fukien Shaolin Temple and one of the few that survived after the destruction of the temple by the Ching dynasty. Hung Hei Gung then learned the crane system from his wife. He is accredited for developing the duality of hard and soft energy. He blended the two together and called his style Hung Gar. As the knowledge was passed down from Hung Hei Gung, exceptional teachers within the style made certain refinements and adaptations. The style as it is seen today is somewhat different than when Hung Hei Gung had developed it. This is a natural progression of how all Gung Fu styles improved to maintain their effectiveness with change of times. Hung Hei Gung passed the knowledge to many different individuals during his life. Most of his efforts to spread the style were influenced by his opposition to the oppressive Ching dynasty. The Ching dynasty was obsessed with the disbandment of Gung Fu within the civilian population, beheading masters and practitioners throughout china. The art was taken underground through Chinese opera houses and renegade ships. Hung Gar then re-emerged strong again through a student by the name of Wong Fei Hung.
