Tour de Milk

Tour de Milk is a bike race that takes place in and around Carlinville, Illinois. Race it or go party pace. All are welcome!

Format is the same as last year: Ride in Carlinville/Macoupin County between Saturday, September 18 and Friday, November 12, 2021. You can bike with your own group or solo. This year when you finish you can pick up your shirts at the Carlinville Plaza Cafe. As we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Route 66, riders of the 33 and 66-mile courses will get to experience a little piece of that history firsthand. A section of this year’s route follows part of the original 1926 Route 66 alignment between Girard and Nilwood!

The Mother Road was built for adventure, and we hope this year’s Tour de Milk gives you plenty of it! 🛞🇺🇸

If you have never been to Carlinville to ride the Tour de Milk you will find there are lots of cool things you can see and do while in town. Check out the famous Million Dollar Courthouse, The Cannonball Jail, The Bee Sculpture or the Haunted Loomis Hotel. Stop by Broom Orchard with Apples and Pumpkins and other great products or you could eat at Carlinville's famous 122 year old Chili Parlor - Taylor's Chili. We are getting lots of questions so will try to answer most of them right here.

Question 1 - do you have SAG support? - yes we do. Our sponsor Wheel Fast Bicycle Company will be providing this as they have almost every year since we started way back in the 2010's

Question 2 - Will the route be available in GPX file ahead of the ride? Yes it will. Way back in 2020 during the covid years I was removed from ride planning and locals John Norris and Glen Tofte took over the route planning - once they get it sorted out we will post the files. The good news is the routes are better and our rising participation reflects their good work!

Question 3 - Will you have Gluten Free snacks? - why yes we will

Question 4 - Will there be Chocolate Milk? - yes Prairie Farms Dairy is ready to rock and there will be plenty of it available.

Question 5 - Are we gonna be chip timed? Yes MSE Racing will be doing the timing. We will do a gun start in the Plaza like all years previously but the timed start and finish will be behind the Plaza on University Street. This will allow for a full speed finish for the serious folks.

Question 6 - Do we have age categories? - not this year but may add them in future years.

Question 7 - Is the course well marked? We think it will be. We mostly use RouteArrows which are biodegradable. If the course splits we spray paint that on the street. We usually mark everything Thursday and Friday before the ride. Yet invariably.... somebody makes a wrong turn. Hoping 2026 will be the year nobody gets lost!
