🇺🇸 September 11th. A day we will always remember.

Today, we remember September 11, 2001. The lives lost, the families forever changed, and the courage, sacrifice, and unity that followed. It’s a day that reminds us not to take our freedoms for granted and to be grateful for the people who have fought, served, and sacrificed to protect them.

Days like today are ones we would normally love to spend at the shop, surrounded by good people who love this country, appreciate the outdoors, and understand just how special these freedoms are. But today, our place is with family. We have a family matter that needs our attention so the store will be closed.

We’ll keep everyone updated as we can on when we’ll be back open. We truly appreciate your understanding and, as always, your support of our little family owned shop.

Take a moment today to remember. To honor. To be grateful.

We’ve been a little busy behind the scenes lately… 👀

For quite a while now, we’ve been working on something that we think is going to be a pretty big addition to Wild Haven Outdoors.

Our new WEBSITE is getting closer to being finished, and seeing everything finally start to come together has been AWESOME!

This is going to be a lot more than just a website with our hours and contact information. We’re building a place where you can get a better look at what’s happening inside the store, keep up with competitions, raffles and events, and dive a little deeper into the hunting, fishing, archery and outdoor topics that we can’t always talk about the way we’d like to on social media.

And there’s quite a bit more we’re not going to give away just yet. 😉

There has been a TON of work going on behind the scenes to get this right, and we’re getting really excited to finally share it with everyone.

MONDAY MORNING FIELD REPORT 🌾

We're officially entering that weird part of the year where your hobbies start fighting over your free time. 😂

🎣 Fishing: Still plenty of summer left to get on the water.

🕊️ Dove: September 1 is getting CLOSE. Time to start paying attention to fields, flight paths and where birds are gathering.

🏹 Archery: We're 38 days from October 1. At this point, your bow shouldn't just be “pretty close.” It's time to start shooting consistently and paying attention to the little things.

🦌 Whitetails: Late-summer patterns are about to start changing. The next few weeks are a great time to observe without putting unnecessary pressure on your hunting ground.

🍂 And fall?

It's close enough that you can almost smell it.

Welcome to the best stretch of the outdoor calendar!

🏹 ARCHERY FUN FACT: Your arrow may be fast…but a whitetail’s reaction can be faster 🦌

That famous “ducking the string” isn’t really the deer dodging the arrow after seeing it. “Ducking the string” is a bowhunting term for what happens when a deer drops its body between the release of the arrow and the arrow reaching it.

Despite the name, the deer usually isn't consciously “ducking the arrow.” It hears the bow and reacts instinctively. To explode into a run, a deer often crouches and loads its legs, lowering its chest and vital area. If it drops enough before the arrow arrives, an otherwise well-aimed shot can hit higher than intended or potentially miss.

That’s one reason quiet equipment, reasonable shot distances, deer behavior, and shot placement matter so much in bowhunting.
