Our boys had a great time this weekend as they traveled to Memphis, TN for the annual Shamrock 7’s tournament. They had a chance to observe and play some very well-rounded teams, including some from The Gateway Conference.
The dawgs came out of the gate a little slow against their first opponent, Washington University. Although there were several standout players including Captain Henry Smith and Nick Iguanti leading the team in tackles, and Dennis “the menace” Kloss, Cayden Myers, and Kalvin Rigdon with standout runs and tries, the boys came up short.
Against the currently ranked #3 Memphis team the boys put up a hard fight, with Nick Iguanti scoring the first try of the match. However, even with exceptional playmaking by standout players Henry Smith, Parker Moore, Kalvin Rigdon, and more, they fell short to the Tigers.
For the first time in many years the dawgs defeated St. Louis University in a very hard-fought match. With tries from Kalvin Rigdon and Nick Iguanti. As well as great defensive plays from Henry Smith and Tyson Lewis, which all together lead to the dawgs victory.
Lastly, the dawgs had a freidnly match against the formittable Memphis B side. With several standout players including newcomer Garrett Zimmerman, with outstanding plays from Henry Smith, Parker Moore, Dennis Kloss, and Cayden Myers, the dawgs came out on top for their second victory of the day.
We could not be more proud of our guys’ performance this past weekend, and can’t wait for the rest of the season. We will see you at the second annual Caves and Ditches tournament March 28th at home! Huge thank you to all of our followers and alumni for their continued support throughout this season, and a special thank you to our coach, Alan Anderson, for his time and commitment to the team. Here’s to a successful season. GO DAWGS!!!
