Our boys had a great time this weekend as they traveled to Memphis, TN for the annual Shamrock 7’s tournament. They had a chance to observe and play some very well-rounded teams, including some from The Gateway Conference.
The dawgs came out of the gate a little slow against their first opponent, Washington University. Although there were several standout players including Captain Henry Smith and Nick Iguanti leading the team in tackles, and Dennis “the menace” Kloss, Cayden Myers, and Kalvin Rigdon with standout runs and tries, the boys came up short.
Against the currently ranked #3 Memphis team the boys put up a hard fight, with Nick Iguanti scoring the first try of the match. However, even with exceptional playmaking by standout players Henry Smith, Parker Moore, Kalvin Rigdon, and more, they fell short to the Tigers.
For the first time in many years the dawgs defeated St. Louis University in a very hard-fought match. With tries from Kalvin Rigdon and Nick Iguanti. As well as great defensive plays from Henry Smith and Tyson Lewis, which all together lead to the dawgs victory.
Lastly, the dawgs had a freidnly match against the formittable Memphis B side. With several standout players including newcomer Garrett Zimmerman, with outstanding plays from Henry Smith, Parker Moore, Dennis Kloss, and Cayden Myers, the dawgs came out on top for their second victory of the day.
We could not be more proud of our guys’ performance this past weekend, and can’t wait for the rest of the season. We will see you at the second annual Caves and Ditches tournament March 28th at home! Huge thank you to all of our followers and alumni for their continued support throughout this season, and a special thank you to our coach, Alan Anderson, for his time and commitment to the team. Here’s to a successful season. GO DAWGS!!!

Not the outcome we were hoping for, but the Dawgs came up just short in a hard-fought battle against the Fighting Illini. Despite the loss, there were several standout performances on Saturday. Leading the charge with meters gained were our powerful runners: Henry “Hank the Tank” Smith, Kalvin Rigdon, and Noah Langley. We also want to give a special shoutout to newcomers Griffen Hughes and Nick Iguanti, who both stepped up and made several key plays. A huge congratulations to our Man of the Match, Nick “Mini P.E.K.K.A” Iguanti, who played his first game at ho**er and delivered an outstanding performance. While the result didn’t go our way, it was a great match and an even better learning experience. Finally, thank you to all the family, friends, and SIU Rugby Old Loads who came out to support us. We couldn’t do it without you.!!

The Dawgs came up just short this weekend in a hard-fought match against SLU. Dennis “the Menace” Kloss was named Salukis’ man of the match for his outstanding leadership and playmaking in the backline. Newcomer Griffin Hughes ( #11) scored his first try against a tough opponent, followed by Kalvin Rigdon ( #12), who crossed the line three times to send the team into halftime with a two-try lead. In the second half, Parker Moore ( #9) added another try and nailed four of five kicks to keep the Dawgs ahead. Unfortunately, a string of key injuries in the second half turned the tide, and the team ultimately fell short. While the final result wasn’t what we hoped for, we couldn’t be prouder of the composure, grit, and passion our Dawgs showed on the field. We also want to thank our alumni and parents for their incredible support throughout the weekend. The season is just beginning, and we’re eager to bounce back as we face Washington University at home this coming weekend. See you there!!

FULL TIME!!! Our Dawgs battled hard this weekend and came away with a 24–7 victory over Maryville University, securing their fourth consecutive Dog Bowl win. Sam Howard earned Man of the Match honors after scoring three tries and making several key tackles. Dennis “The Menace” Kloss added a try of his own while leading the backline with sharp playmaking. Newcomers Tyson Lewis and Ryan Prince made their rugby debut, and proved themselves with strong defensive efforts and numerous tackles. Beyond the highlights, several other players stood out, continuing to push the team forward not only through their on-field performance but also their attitude, work ethic, and commitment to each other. The Dawgs are fired up for the rest of the season and eager to defend their home turf next weekend. See you then–GO DAWGS!!!🐕🏉

Safe to say this past weekend was a tremendous success and an invaluable learning experience for our ruggers.
From classroom sessions and guided walk-throughs to on-field drills and a scrimmage with the Royal Ramblers out of St. Louis, the weekend was packed with meaningful development and team growth.
We are incredibly grateful to our coaches and volunteers—Joe Lasky, Steve McKinstry, Brione Lockett, Luke Mathews, and Derek Mohler—as well as the entire Royal Ramblers squad. Thank you for generously sharing your time, knowledge, and experience with us. We would also like to give a huge shoutout to our men of the match: Forward - Noah Langley, and Back - Kalvin Rigdon, who were selected by the Royal Ramblers themselves.
The boys from Southern Illinois are feeling confident, focused, and eager to kick off the season.
GO DAWGS!!
