IMPORTANT Race Day Information -
Good morning, Biathletes!! With only 2 days until the 2026 Pennsylvania Summer Biathlon at Camp Freedom, I wanted to reach out with some information for newcomers and updates for our veteran biathletes.
Please keep in mind that this event is much longer than your average 6K and will go into the afternoon hours. Feel free to bring whatever will make you comfortable for the day – sunscreen, bug spray, your favorite camp chair, etc. We were unable to secure a food sponsor this year, so we suggest packing a lunch and your favorite refreshments. However, please save the alcohol for your private afterparty as Summer Biathlon at Camp Freedom is an alcohol-free event.
Race check-in opens at 7:00 am and all participants must be checked in by 8:30 am. All first-time participants MUST attend the Familiarization and Safety Clinic beginning at 8:30 am. The race is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am, but may start late if the Familiarization and Safety Clinic and range practice run late. We have 78 registered participants this year, so I expect the race to last well into the afternoon. We appreciate your patience on race day, as a biathlon of this size is not an easy production. Our volunteers are not paid for the day, so please give them a shout out for all of their help and hard work.
CHILDREN MUST BE SUPERVISED AT ALL TIMES! Children cannot be left unsupervised for any reason and are not allowed to wander the Camp Freedom grounds. This includes while a parent or guardian is running the race. Children are more than welcome at the biathlon and are encouraged to cheer on their friends and family members (they are the future of biathlon!!), but if you are participating in the event you should plan for some type of childcare. Due to issues with unsupervised children at last year’s event and our concern for their safety at a shooting event, this is a zero-tolerance policy.
There are NO PETS OR OTHER ANIMALS of any kind allowed on Camp Freedom grounds.
Course map and conditions – I have received a few inquiries regarding the course. While I do not have a course map, I can share that this is a well maintained, hard packed gravel trail, partially shaded while in the woods and some open sunny areas. There is very little elevation change for the majority of the course, with a steep but short hill in and out of the range itself. The course is a loop trail that is just over 1 mile long. You will run this same loop 3 times.
Weather for the weekend looks incredible! We can’t wait to see you at the 2026 PA Summer Biathlon at Camp Freedom!! See you Saturday!
