SIU swimmers Alex Cimera and Olivia Herron have been named the Missouri Valley Conference’s Dr. Charlotte West Scholar-Athlete Award winners — the league’s highest honor recognizing academic achievement, athletics excellence, and leadership!

Cimera leaves SIU as one of the most accomplished swimmers in program history — an MVC champion and record holder, two-time Elite 18 Award recipient, and graduate with a perfect 4.00 GPA in aviation management and flight. His leadership through SAAC and service to Special Olympics reflects what it means to wear the Saluki uniform.

Herron caps an all-time career as a two-time All-American, 12-time MVC Champion, and the 2025-26 MVC Swimmer of the Year. A four-time Academic All-American and MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, she paired elite performance with meaningful service in veterinary care, tutoring, and community engagement.

Dr. Charlotte West spent more than four decades shaping Saluki Athletics — as a coach, administrator, and trailblazer for women’s sports at the national level. A Hall of Famer and pioneer, her career set the standard for leadership, opportunity, and excellence that still defines SIU today.

‼ 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐲 𝐃𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫: 𝟏 𝐨𝐟 𝟏𝟓𝟎 ‼

The Saluki senior is just the 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐒𝐈𝐔 𝐦𝐞𝐧'𝐬 𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 named to the NCAA Division I PING All-Region Team. Only 150 golfers in the country received the honor this season.
