It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share news of the passing of my Dad, or “Doc”, as he was known by many. We are deeply saddened by the loss and appreciate your thoughts and well wishes. Through all the emotions, we will celebrate his legacy and all that he has done in life and the immeasurable mark he left on all of us and his beloved Homestead Golf Course.

Donald W. Powell, 82, of Fell Township died on Tuesday at Geisinger-Community Medical Center, Scranton. Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Walter and Helen Russell Powell. D

The date was August 11, 2025, a comfortable summer evening, the front nine buzzing with activity.

Amidst the tranquility and unbeknownst to playing partners and fellow patrons nearby, greatness was lurking - Mark Russell was working through his pre-shot routine on the par-4 sixth tee.

In electing to attack the challenging pin with a towering fade, Mark achieved the ultimate golf feat, a feat so incredibly rare not even Tiger Woods can lay claim, and recorded his first career hole-in-one in style - with an albatross!

Upon witnessing Mark’s golf greatness, onlookers and playing partners alike erupted in celebration. A moment to remember for everyone!

We have a tournament tomorrow morning (Sunday) that may modify starting holes for walk-ins for a period of time but will have room for play throughout the day.
