It was a busy and productive weekend for the Wildcats, as BIIF championships were on the line, in swimming, girls basketball and soccer.

The Girl's Soccer program was eliminated in the semi final with a tough loss at Waiakea 2-1 and finished their season with disappointment, in falling short of their pursuit of a 4th straight BIIF Championship. A very young team provides great promise for the future.

Girls Swimming qualified a relay team for the HHSAA State meet, and was well represented at the BIIF with the most medal count ever for the boys and girls team. HHSAA Tourney will take place at Kamehameha-Hawaii this weekend.

Girls Basketball, kept their string of 92 straight Big Island Interscholastic Federation Wins in place with an impressive victory over HILO HS. The Wildcat Girls head to Honolulu Tuesday-Friday for the HHSAA playoffs, where we are number One seeded and open plan on Wednesday February 10th at 7 PM at Moanalua HS in the quarter finals where they will face the winner of the first round winner of the Punahou-Farrington match up. (attached tournament brackets). It is my understanding all our games will be on OC 16, XCAST. If you aren't able to attend in person, you can be courtside with the OC 16 crew.

Boys Soccer are up this week with BIIF championship tournaments taking place on Wednesday the Boys Soccer are playing NUmber #1 seed Kealakehe at Kealakehe at 3 PM. in the semi finals. The finals will be on Saturday Feb. 13 also at Kealakehe.

Boys Basketball Championships are on Friday at the Civic Auditorium in Hilo, when the 2nd seeded Wildcats play Kamehameha-Hawaii in the semi finals at 5:30 PM. The BIIF Championship game will be on Saturday February 13 at 8 PM. A win Friday night will put the boys in the HHSAA tournament for an unprecedented 4th straight time and a shot at a 4th straight BIIF crown as well.

Wrestling will be a Waiakea HS on Saturday February 13th at 10 AM at the BIIF championship tournament

spring sports up NEXT, please remind students, today is the first day of SPRING SPORTS, OFFICIAL START. TOMORROW NIGHT 6:30 PM Spring Sport Parent's meeting in the Cafeteria.

The KonawaenaHS Spring Sports Parent's Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 9th at the HS cafeteria. It is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM.

This meeting is mandatory for all parents who have a student-athlete planning to participate in a Spring Sport (unless you have already attended a previous meeting this year). All prospective student athletes must have a current physical exam on file and a parental consent form completed prior to starting practice. The official start date for practice for all Spring Sports is Monday, February 8th.

There will also be a Spring Sport Coaches meeting immediately following the parent's meeting, in the HS Cafeteria.

All Media are welcome to attend, photo opportunities and interviews will also be available.

WE KNOW IT'S SPRING....

When blooms pop, the grass grows and those familiar words can be heard "Let's PLAY BALL". Yup, it's BASEBALL SEASON.

You are invited to help the Konawaena WildcatsHS Baseball celebrate the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and enjoy a great BBQ and get out into the sun and watch JV Baseball Teams play the Grand Old Game of Baseball.

WHEN: MONDAY JANUARY 18TH AT THE GABBY INABA FIELD on the Konawaena School Campus. First game slated at 10:30 AM. We're also serving a Soul Food BBQ plate from 11-2 pm. Menu includes, Randy's Hulihuli Chicken and Ribs, Red Beans and Rice, Coleslaw and Cornbread and Lemonade.

BBQ tickets are on sale for $10.00 each and include all JV Baseball Games. Tickets may be purchased from any ballplayer or at the schools' Athletic Office. And just in case you can't make the games, take-out orders are also available.

Informational material will be provided about the Legacy of Dr. King and the gives us a chance to HONOR the Day as it was designed.
