History was made right here in Maine.
This week, 31 students from York participated in the state’s very first GCSAA First Green program — transforming the golf course into a hands-on outdoor classroom and living laboratory. ⛳️🌎
Our superintendent, assistant superintendent, and team proudly supported the day alongside local area superintendents who generously donated their time to help inspire the next generation.
Students rotated through interactive learning stations focused on:
💧 Water quality testing
🌱 Soil science + soil testing
📏 Measuring green speed
💦 Wetting agents + moisture meters for monitoring water content
🏌️ A driving range session with the golf pro
🌎 Environmental sustainability + career exploration
Through experiential STEAM-based learning, students gained a behind-the-scenes look at the science, technology, environmental stewardship, and teamwork that go into maintaining a golf course.
First Green, a program of the Foundation, helps connect students to the environment, sustainability, and future career pathways in a meaningful and engaging way.
