Week 4 of camp was quite busy for our campers! First thing our campers got to do was have the giant water slide on Monday. Campers got to have some fun in the sun with the slip-n-slide. We got to go back to Parker Hall for Archery as well as an intense round of indoor soccer. Campers also got to experience learning aerial yoga with Miss River in the group fitness studio. On Thursday, our campers got to go to the SEMO Gymnastics training gym where campers got to jump on the trampoline, flip into the foam pit, and even swing on the uneven bars.

Week 3 of camp was another fun packed week of activities like tie dyeing shirts and making beady buddies with the campers. Miss River showed our campers some moves with the aerial yoga silks and even some of our counselors got to try out learning a new skill alongside our very excited campers. We also got to go to the Charles Hutson Horticulture Greenhouse at Southeast and our campers got to take part in a mint challenge, learning about 6 different types of mint. Campers also got to plant their own ranunculus to take home as well as learning how to plant mum sprouts. Campers were taken through the three houses to view and learn about the many exotic plants that our greenhouses have and campers learned a small lesson in properly watering plants.

RKC this summer started off much different than from previous years. Weeks 1 and 2 of our camp, campers got to experience going to Parker Hall for archery and indoor soccer. Campers also got to challenge the rock wall and learn how to use the standing paddle boards for pool games. Although our camp structure has had to adapt to the times, our campers still had a great experience while staying safe. We hope to continue providing a safe and fun environment for our campers as well as our staff.

Week 9, our final week of camp! This weeks theme was animal planet! The campers this week got to participate in yoga with Mrs. Sara as well as an obstacle course around the group fitness studio! Campers got to run, jump, or bounce their energy out with one group while the other got to participate in our final (all parents may collectively breathe now) tie dye day! On Wednesday, our campers got to trek across campus for snack time at the Kent fountain. Although curious about why, some of our counselors got to tell our campers some of the history of our gorgeous campus. We wrapped up the last day of camp with luau themed clothing and the well anticipated pet show! Campers and counselors got to bring in their pets and show off tricks or just how well behaved their pets are. A wonderful way to wrap up RKC 2019!!

Rowdy Redhawk wanted to join our campers in their game. Some of our campers may have been too swift for him, but our mascot always flies strong!

Week 7 of camp was themed “When I Grow Up” and we had a week packed with excitement. Mrs. Sara with Recreation Services gave our campers a relaxing and cosmic experience with glow yoga at the beginning of the week. Our field trip took us to the Cape Girardeau Police Station where we got to tour the whole facility and see behind the scenes of what is done to keep our city safe. We did not get many pictures, but we did get to meet one of the K9 officers that day as well as got to spend a moment in court. On Thursday, we got a visit from the Cape Girardeau Fire Department. The team of firefighters brought some gear to show what they must wear in order to save lives. We also got to climb up inside the fire truck and look around at more of their gear. The campers really enjoyed getting to learn about these careers and what each person does to protect our city!

Week 4 of camp was “Splish Splash” week. Campers got to go to Parker Hall on campus for another round of archery. Pictured are two of our campers showing off their prized bullseye shots! Wednesday of that week, our Director of Fitness and Wellness, Sara, took our campers on a cosmic yoga adventure to help relax before the water balloon fights that happened later that day. On Friday, our campers got to slide down the hill on the front lawn in our tarp water slide and getting hosed off before getting swim time with treasure diving.
