July Recap!

Everything in July changed day to day, the ocean conditions, water temps, current, fish location, weather, bait availability...... nothing stayed consistent.... But, we pivoted every day and stayed on the fish. July brought us a great red snapper season, tons of vermillion snapper, mahi-mahi, cobia, kingfish, lots of amberjack, lots of almaco jack and even a few visits from sailfish.

Patterns should be changing even more for August and I am looking forward to it.

We have been catching a lot of of big dolphin (mahi-mahi) the last couple of weeks along with some nice cobia and big groupers. The kingfish have been playing ghost so far in June, but I can't complain about everything else!

The new bigger Pushing Limits charter boat is officially permitted and running trips. We are now proud to offer our clients more space to move around, a drier softer ride and a fully functional flushing toilet on charters.

On Tuesday I ran the inaugural charter on the new boat. Fishing was tough but we stuck to our plan and hooked up with some stud kingfish and bottom fish. The sharks and red snapper were plentiful as usual lately.

We haven't posted much this year, but we have been fishing hard, even when the weather was terrible.

The first few months of 2022, when the weather let us go offshore, we saw good catches of cobia, kingfish, snappers of all types, big sharks and even a few goliath groupers.

A large number of days though, we couldn't go offshore. On those days we fished hard and put together great catches ranging in variety; including snook, bull reds, pompano, flounder, hammerheads, blacktips, trout, whiting, spanish mackerel, bluefish, mangrove snapper, lane snapper, mutton snapper, jacks, ladyfish, giant rays and even a light tackle goliath grouper from dock structure.

Spoiler alert.... today may very well have been the last charter trip I run on the blue Sea-Pro you all know and love..... more news to come soon.

The year has ended with calm seas, a wide open kingfish bite and plentuful livebait earily reminiscent of a summertime pattern.

Tom brought his son Zack out on one of these days looking to take advantage of the excellent fishing. We started out by catching a limit of kingfish and a variety of smaller bottom species. Zack had his heart set on boating a keeper size amberjack and big red snapper though. After a little pep talk and practicing some fighting techniques we set out. We started battling the greedy cudas before Zack landed a nice almaco jack, but he still wanted a big AJ. A couple more attempts and he got his prize, a nice 38" amberjack. On the next drift he managed to win a battle against a very large red snapper! As a bonus we got to handfeed a nice barracuda right at the boat and fight him on light tackle.

My social media manager (AKA my lovely wife ) told me I have been slacking on making social media posts, and I have. So I am going to post some of the many trips from the last month or so in no particular order.

In August Kaiden and his dad hopped on my boat to celebrate Kaiden's birthday. The guys managed to boat several mahi-mahi, a few kingfish, and some cobia. One of the cobia was a stud 45" fish!

Super excited for this dinner. One of the cuts of fish you have to try to believe.

Monday I had a great group from Texas join me on the water. The seas were much rougher than previous days, but we made it work.

We spent the morning offshore where the crew got to pull on some big kings, a couple mahi-mahi, some small sharks, and a real nice hammerhead shark! After that we moved in towards the port where they pulled on some various sharks and a big stingray.

The last day of the 2021 red snapper season turned out just as good as the first. We didn't get any monsters, but we still got to be picky with the size we kept to make a limit. We also put some nice trigger fish and vermillion snapper in the box like previous days. A couple of nice kingfish joined the party on this day and we even had a brief encounter with a sailfish.

The 2021 snapper season is now over and I'm already looking forward to seeing you all again next year!
