Canton's 1st annual Memorial Day Showdown This is Canton's first Memorial Day Showdown. This is a money tournament and I expect it to be full of high end competition.

This is a 3 day tournament that is starting on Saturday May 28th and will be finishing up on Monday May 30th.

Announcement: the canton peewee baseball association will be running a concession stand at the tournament. They will be selling pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs, donuts, chips, snacks, soda, water, Gatorade and other good drinks and snacks of that nature. Everything that’s bought must be paid with cash only, checks or cards will not be accepted. Please show your support to the future ballers coming up through and get your food and drinks there as all proceeds will go directly to their program. Everyone involved with the concession stand is 100% volunteer so please be patient and use good manners as they are will do their best to give you the best service that they can. Thank you everyone and let’s have a great turnout this weekend playing a lot of good softball and having fun at the same time.

Announcement: the draw will be held tonight at 6:30 while I’m at the canton pavilion watching over the league games. I will have random spectators pulling the names out of the jar of names so it will be 100% random.

Official rules for the tournament.
1) Composite bat asa or usa certified. 7 guy, 3 girl split on the field. any team with fewer than 3 girls or less than 8 players on the field will be an automatic forfeit.
2) Pitching will be 6-12 foot from the ground (not from release.)
guy walks in front of a girl, she has the option to take first base on the free walk or hit.
3) Runner on base if the batter swings and doesn't make contact with the ball and the runner jumps off the bag they are immediately out.
4) Commitment line down the 3rd base line, all plays at home are force outs. catchers must be on home plate, the mat does not count.
5) If runner touches home plate or the mat they will be called out.
6) If batter hits the ball and steps on the plate or mat when they make contact they're out.
7) .52 core 300 compression balls.
8) courtesy line in the outfield for girls at bat and also infield must play in the base line
9) teams are allowed to hit 5 home runs each game and may buy additional home runs for $5 per home run with a maximum of 5 allowed to be bought.
10) if you hit over your limit of homeruns they will be automatic outs and no runners can advance.
11) counts will start at 2-1
12) foul ball on strike 3 is an automatic out.
13) hour and 15 minute time limit (Must finish the inning) no new inning can start after an hour and 10 minutes.
14) no metal cleats are allowed
15) if you fight you will be removed and kicked out of the tournament.
16) if you get ejected by the umpire you will be out of the tournament.
17) team fees are $300 and must be fully paid before you play.
18) 10 minute grace period after the 10 minutes game or game will be called and the team that's ready to take the field will be awarded the win.
19) No glass bottles are allowed at the tournament. Cans and plastic bottles only.
20) you crush it you chase it. all home runs must immediately be chased down by the batter that hit it. if it is a home run players don't have to run the bases all the way around just touch first then chase the ball down.
21) infield fly and all ordinary softball rules of that nature are still in effect.
I may be editing this post and adding rules that I may have missed but this will be the post to check for any rules question and will also have print outs of the rules at the tournament.

UPDATE: teams will not be responsible for the umpires and to keep it simple I will take care of it out of the entry fee ($300). I am maxing the tournament out at 10 teams and it will be a 2 day tournament on the 28th and 29th. First Championship game will be around 4:00 Sunday. Second championship game if needed will be around 5:30. We will not be playing on Memorial Day (30th) like originally planned. There will be a home run derby Saturday night under the lights. Entry into the home run derby will be $20. 2nd place will get 25% of the entry fees and 1st place will get 75% it will be a lot of fun no doubt.

Due to teams paying for the umpires each game I’m going to cut the entry fee back to $300 for team entry fee, this will keep the price down some so that teams aren’t paying a big entry fee and then umpires on top. So now it will be $300 to enter and teams are responsible to pay $20 each game for the umpire and will only be 1 umpire on for each game until the quarterfinals and then it will be $35 for the umpires as we will be using a 2 umpire system for the final games.

This will be a 7 guy 3 girl coed tournament. It will be a USA/ASA composite bat tournament. There will be 2 umpires working every game and teams are responsible to pay them $35, one team pays the field umpire and the other team pays the plate umpire. Batters counts will start at 2-1 and foul ball strike 3 is an automatic out. If a guy walks in front of a girl, she has the option to hit or take first base. Teams will be given 5 free home-runs every game, teams can buy a home-run for $5 and can max out at 5 for $25. There will be a commitment line 10 feet down 3rd base line and a line at home plate to cross. all plays at home are force outs and any runner that touches home plate on their way in to score will be called out. runners on base if they jump off the bag early without the bat making contact with the ball will be automatically out. Pitching height; ball must at minimum break over the head of the batter and can go as high as the sky. when pitchers start their motion they must continue with the pitch and cannot sit there and pump fake. Pinch runners will be last batted out and a guy must run for a guy and girl must run for a girl. There will be a mercy rule in place until the quarter finals. The mercy rule is as follows; 25 after 4, 20 after 5, and 15 after 6. There will be circles marked in the outfield that guys must stand in when the girls are at bat. girls do not have to stay in the circles and can act as a rover. To determine who is home and away every game, games will start with a coin flip to decided who home except for the first championship game, the team in the winners bracket will start off as the home team for the first game. If there happens to be a second championship game then home and away will be decided by a coin flip. There will be an hour and a half time limits on games until the quarter finals. Teams must be ready 30 minutes early of their scheduled game time as games will start early if we run ahead of schedule. Please share this post like crazy and get the word out to everyone you may know. Any fights and you'll be automatically out of the tournament. We are playing hard and for money but this is also a no nonsense tournament. If a player gets kicked out by the umpire they will be done for the weekend, no second chances. There will be a concession stand being ran by the Canton peewee association and all proceeds that they earn from the concession stand goes to their baseball program.

Team's must be registered and paid before May 18th. I will not hold spots for teams until their fee is fully paid. Entry fee will be $400. the only thing that i am taking money out of the pool is to cover the balls, Trophy, and rental fee. After that every dollar that is left in it will be available to win. Please share this post and get the word out to everyone you know and SHARE SHARE SHARE!!!! I want to see this tournament get maxed out with teams. PM me for information on how to pay the team fee so your spot can be held.
