My Next Letter to the Editor of a local newspaper.
Bad news, good news, and sad news.
Okay, first the bad news. A month or so ago, a friend of mine broke his right hand rather badly. He is a young, talented and right-handed plumber.
Now the good news. He saw an orthopedic doctor, who reset the bone on the right side of his hand and applied a temporary cast. In only a few weeks, my friend had the cast removed and he could open and close his hand without any pain.
However, he noticed something like a bone sticking out of the side of his hand and returned to the surgeonโs office. He was told that the protrusion was a calcium formation that was part of the healing process. Also, the results of a strength test showed he had more power in his right hand than he had before breaking this hand.
Now, I knew a little bit about this Wisdom of Nature and this natural healing process from reading Earnest Hemingwayโs, A Farewell to Arms. In this book is a favorite quote of mine, โThe world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry.โ
The sad news, of course, is contained in the true reality of this quote, but what is sadder yet, is that we are not doing all that we can to help protect our children or ourselves in our world today, the is not so kind of a world after all.
This is the truth, both literally and figuratively, and we do have the proof, for those who can handle the truth.
Honestly and respectfully,
