In 1996, I began training in and teaching Sh*to-Ryu Karate-Do in Canon City, Colorado.

This has been the greatest experience in my life. For a very long time, it has been my life.

I have met and touched the lives of countless people over the past almost 30 years. We have taught traditional Japanese karate with passion and compassion.

I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis several years ago and slowly backed away from teaching due to the physical limitations of the disease. Yet, through capable and caring students, we carried on. We fought and stood when covid wreaked havoc, when the economy destabilized, and through numerous other hardships.

Sadly, last Tuesday was our final night of classes. Our student base has dried up and none of us can afford to keep the dojo on life support out of our own pockets.

There are many people I would like to thank. Too many to list here in fear that I will leave someone out. Mostly, I would like to thank the public for helping me keep the art of Seito Sh*to-Ryu alive.

To all of our former and present sudents; hold on to your dreams. Strive to make yourself a better person and your world a better place. This door may have closed, this chapter may have ended, but the story is far from over. I have always taught that karate, true karate, should not just be something you do, but part of who you are.

We are accepting new students for a limited time.

Canon City, Colorado is the home of Rocky Mountain Sh*to-Ryu Karate Do. We are Canon City's only traditional Japanese karate dojo.

Congratulations to our newest Shodan, Chris C. Sempai. Chris traveled to Vancouver BC this weekend and went through rigorous training with the leaders of our organization from around the world. He tested and earned the rank of Shodan (First Degree Black Belt).
We are all very proud!

I would like everyone to keep Chris Sempai in their thoughts today. He has traveled to Vancouver BC to train with members and Sensei of our organization and will be testing for his Shodan rank later this evening. Please send some positive energy his way as he represents our dojo!
