Looks like summer is here. The Arkansas River in Canon City is running at 326 cfs and 67 degrees. With the higher water temps mornings and evenings are prime time. It's foam fly time with the dry fly bite on; Caddis adults are still working well, and the #16 orange Asher is bringing trout to the net. Here are some of the foam flies I use. #1 hopper pattern, #2 Spider, #3 yellow Sally. and #4 the Grumpy Frumpy in yellow.

Beautiful spring day, great day to be on the water. The Arkansas River is running at 277 cfs and 54 degrees visibility is good. Josh Wil and I decided to fish a local pond today, and it didn't disappoint. The blue gills and largemouth bass wanted to play. Flies of choice were a #14 Beaded Renegade and a #12 olive red butt woolly bu**er. Here are pictures of a few of the fish we landed and the flies we used.

Beautiful day here in Canon City. The Arkansas River is running at 273 cfs and is 51.8 degrees. Visibility is good, still a little silty. Fished with Josh today, not much surface activity today, but there is a hatch of small black caddis. They were all over the shoreline rocks hundreds of them. The Copper Head was the fly of choice; I think it looked like the pupa of the little black caddis that was all over the shore. The next few days look a little stormy, it could turn on the BWO's or more caddis hatches. Need to get out and test the waters, never know what you will hook into.

Another nice morning on the Arkansas River, here in Canon City. The river is running at 229 cfs with a water temp of 55 degrees. Water clarity is a little dirty with at least 2 feet of visibility, very fishable. Josh and I had a chance to get out and swing some flies and had a ball. The trout were keying in on #14 Beaded Renegade and the #14 Copper Head. Not much surface activity so dries weren't working for us. I did tie a new caddis adult pattern, going to try it out during a Caddis emergence one of these afternoons. Here are pictures of some of the trout we landed, and the flies we used. The river is fishing very well right now, get out and have some fun.

Looks like a nice day. the Arkansas River has dropped a little running at 273 cfs, with a temp still around 50 degrees. Today would be a great day to get out and swing some flies. Finished the 3 wt., it's ready for the water and some trout to flex it.

The Arkansas River is in perfect shape, running at 344 cfs, 50 degrees and with good visibility. Josh and I were out swinging dry caddis patterns yesterday afternoon and had a ball. We were using a caddis pattern I just came up with the #16 April Fool's Caddis. Here are some flies that are working well #14 Beaded Renegade, #16 April Fool's Caddis, #16 Pink Thing (caddis larva), #8 Green Envy (stone fly). We didn't hook any Rainbows, but the browns wanted to play.

Big difference in weather yesterday was spring, today it's back to summer. Had a chance to fish a little this morning, a little slow. Had one nice rainbow to the net and lost him, landed one nice bugle mouth bass (sucker). The river has come up, nine days ago it was running at 289 cfs, today it's at 409 cfs and dirty. The water temp is 46 degrees. I did see bwo's flying around, and the caddis were hatching. Next week once the river settles down, I will start swinging caddis patterns, can't waite . In the shop I have the 4- piece 3 weight varnished and graphite ferrules installed. Now it's ready to finish just in time for creek fishing. Get out and have some fun.
