We're excited to share Beth's journey, whose story reminds us why we show up every day.
Here’s what she had to say about the last months of training and her experience with us at Canon City Fitness:
"In the spring, I signed up for the Lake City 50 in August and was already deep into my training routine. I was really looking forward to racing The Grinder at the Royal Gorge Whitewater Festival - one of my absolute favorites - as part of my prep. When I found out it had been discontinued, I was crushed. So with only three weeks' notice, I signed up for the Leadville Silver Rush 50 instead, knowing full well this race was way more intense than what I was prepared for at the time.
I was already following a solid routine - mountain biking, running up and down Skyline Drive, gym sessions, and even throwing in 100 burpees daily. Those steep Skyline Drive climbs turned out to be perfect for building the leg strength I'd need for Leadville's relentless ascents. The gym became my go-to when conditions weren't ideal - whether it was scorching heat, muddy trails, or days when I just couldn't get outside.
The gyms Street Parking programing and other functional fitness workouts were absolute game-changers. They built the core strength and leg power I needed for those brutal Leadville climbs, but more importantly, they've taught me over the years how to embrace discomfort and push through when things get tough. That high-intensity training prepared me mentally and physically for what endurance racing throws at you. The cardio machines kept my fitness base solid regardless of weather.
Looking back, those gym workouts made all the difference between just surviving the race and actually finishing strong. When I hit those crushing climbs, I had both the conditioning and the mental toughness to dig deep and keep going."
