100 Fly National Champ & New NAG Record. I lowered a mark that was set in 2008. Don’t know if it was done in a super suit or not but that was definitely the era of super suits before they were banned in 2009. Michael Ross set a helleva record to be broken. As proud as I am of this achievement, I do want another chance at lowering it. 48.99 just sounds so much better than 49.04🤷🏽♂️
The odd walls at this meet had the top of the gutter trimmed in metal that extended about 5 inches down the wall. So if you didn’t push off deep enough, you would slip. Lots of people did and a few of my teammates as well. I even slipped from the back to breast turn in the 100IM after this race. In all honesty, for a meet of this magnitude, there should’ve been touchpads on the opposite side to avoid this. But I know that costs money, so it is what it is.
An obstacle like this just makes us better. I had to be hyper aware to not slip on those walls where in most other meets, that’s not something I need to put my energy into. Some may say that was the tenth that coulda got me under. Maybe, maybe not. What I do know, is that I’m capable of going faster. If I can find a SCY meet during LCM season before I turn 45, I’ll give it another go. If not, well, the 45-49 100 Fly record ain’t gonna last long😎 It currently stands at 50.19 by Daniel Lotano. He just lowered that mark at the same meet by a hundredth. The record hunting continues 💯
